Summary

Estimator/Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil & Marine Construction

Location: CT (On-Site Only)

Work with One of New England’s Most Established Infrastructure Contractors

A long-standing heavy civil and marine contractor based in CT is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. This firm has been building critical infrastructure across the Northeast for over 100 years, with expertise in DOT work, site development, utilities, marine structures, and engineered construction.

This is a full-time, on-site role suited to an individual with a strong foundation in heavy civil construction and a desire to play a hands-on role in a tight-knit, engineering-focused environment.

About the Role

The selected candidate will take responsibility for preparing detailed cost estimates and supporting preconstruction efforts across a wide variety of public and private sector infrastructure projects. This includes quantity take-offs, subcontractor coordination, and full bid preparation from start to finish.

While the role is focused on estimating, the company culture encourages all team members to contribute across functions, offering variety and long-term growth potential. Candidates should be confident in managing their own estimates independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for heavy civil and marine construction projects, including take-offs and cost breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to compile competitive bids.
  • Assemble all required bid documentation, including prequalification packages and schedules.
  • Research upcoming bid opportunities and support pursuit strategy.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between estimates and project delivery plans.

Candidate Profile

  • 7–10+ years of overall construction experience, with at least 5 years in full-time estimating.
  • 3+ years of prior field experience is ideal (e.g. as a Project Engineer, Superintendent or Project Manager).
  • Civil Engineering degree or similar technical background preferred.
  • Experience with scopes such as pile driving, concrete, excavation, underground utilities, DOT infrastructure, and marine construction.
  • Strong computer proficiency and ability to work with estimating software and digital plans.
  • Comfortable working full-time in-office — this is not a remote or hybrid role.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Target base salary: ~$110,000-$160,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Health and dental insurance (with HSA)
  • Long-term opportunity with swift progression to 2nd-in-command and VP potential in a company with a strong backlog and family-oriented culture

Why Consider This Opportunity

  • Work for one of the most respected heavy civil contractors in the region
  • Take on a key estimating role with long-term growth potential
  • Diverse project portfolio including DOT, marine, utility, and structural work
  • Be part of a collaborative team with a strong engineering foundation and a practical, hands-on culture

This company offers a clearly defined path for long-term growth, with structured career advancement through its Estimating Leadership Track. For those ready to step into a senior estimating role and contribute to some of the Northeast’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects, this is a standout opportunity.
