Job Description: Under limited supervision, the Senior Engineer will provide water management support related to the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings and leach facilities, along with all other mine water systems, including process and stormwater facilities. The role serves as a company resource for water balance modeling and contributes to the development of new tools and methods to enhance mine water balance capabilities.
What You’ll Do
Provide site-specific support to engineers and site personnel in the design, development, and maintenance of site-wide water balance models.
Incorporate water use scenarios based on specific production plans and climate forecasts to evaluate water balance performance.
Utilize probabilistic predictive simulations to support the design of capital infrastructure projects and use the results to identify value-added solutions to operational challenges or as requested.
Apply engineering principles to guide and/or execute operational water balance activities. These activities may include managing contractor work, conducting field investigations, measurement, mapping, data interpretation, accounting, analysis, coordination, forecasting, problem solving, and reporting.
Provide training to multidisciplinary teams on the use of specialized software and methodologies related to water balance.
Act as a technical expert in mine water balance applications and lead e orts to advance modeling through innovative methods, technologies, and customized tools.
Develop and/or review scopes of work, evaluate vendor proposals, draft internal funding requests, and manage contracts for services and equipment as approved and required.
Identify improvement opportunities and determine associated value for risk reduction.
Perform other duties as required.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the applicable field of expertise, OR Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited curriculum, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in engineering or a related scientific field
Knowledge of civil, geotechnical, water resources, water quality/treatment, and/or geological engineering principles and practices
Demonstrated technical competence through design and/or operational experience in at least one of the following areas:
Tailings storage
Leach stockpiles
Water dams
Process water balance
Water quality/treatment
Hydraulics/hydrology
Hydrogeology
Proficiency in MS Office and other engineering tools such as CAD, analytical platforms, and mapping software
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate to a diverse and technically varied audience
Ability to present a positive, professional image
Self-motivated, energetic, and client-service oriented
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and perform well under pressure
Strong awareness of occupational hazards and ability to work safely, recognizing and responding to safety risks
Nice To Have’s
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Water Resources Engineering or water quality/treatment specialization
Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in GoldSim simulation software, including five (5) or more years designing and developing water balance models
GoldSim Certified Solution Provider
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification
Experience in metal mining operations, particularly involving:
Tailings storage facilities
Water dams
Leach stockpiles
Water treatment
Metal refining design and operation
Experience utilizing bathymetric and topographic survey data
Knowledge of slurry transport analysis and design
Experience in cost estimating, project scheduling, and project controls for civil projects
Ability to research and analyze information of limited scope and difficulty, and draw valid conclusions
Capacity to evaluate and implement new design and operational methods
Experience in surface water hydrology, hydraulics, and groundwater hydrology, in addition to geotechnical expertise
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with both technical and nontechnical teams
Proficiency in related engineering software, such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Muk3D, and ArcGIS, as well as programming languages such as Python and R
Fluency in Spanish or Bahasa Indonesian
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
Availability to travel for a minimum of five (5) weeks per quarter
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an accredited curriculum with five years of applicable experience OR
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with three years of applicable experience
Pay & Benefits
$100,000 to $140,000 base salary
