Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and creative Senior Engineer, Mechanical to help develop the next generation of cutting-edge 3D sensing systems with Lumotive’s Light Control Metasurface™ technology. If you’re excited about designing cutting-edge hardware that powers autonomous-driving cars, advanced automation, and immersive AR/VR experience – this is your change to make it real.
You’ll be a core part of a tight-knit, cross-functional team, owning everything from early concepts to fully integrated prototypes. You’ll architect, design, and build mechanical systems that push the limits of what’s possible — fast, lean, and built for scale.
Responsibilities:
- Own the mechanical design and development of innovative, low-cost, high performance 3D sensing systems that are ready for volume production
- Develop mechanical architecture and create system and sub-system level designs to demonstrate differentiation enabled by Lumotive’s LCM technology
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, GD&T-compliant drawings, and comprehensive mechanical documentation
- Select appropriate materials, fabrication processes, assembly processes, and work with domestic and overseas vendors to build prototypes
- Plan and execute design validation activities to ensure mechanical and thermal performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards
- Resolve issues related to material properties, manufacturing tolerances, and thermal management
- Manage in-house prototyping, assembly, and testing infrastructure
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, optical, and systems engineering teams to define requirements, create project plans, and meet technical and schedule objectives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience (or 3+ years with an advanced degree)
- Self-driven and adaptable; thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments focused on breakthrough innovation
- Expertise in mechanical CAD tools (PTC Creo and SolidWorks); experience with PDM systems (Windchill and SolidWorks PDM)
- Strong foundation in materials, thermal design, statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
- Proven experience with DFM/DFA and design for thermal, vibration, shock, and ingress protection in industrial or automotive applications
- Experience with rapid prototyping, including 3D printing, machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and compression molding
- Full product lifecycle experience—from requirements and design through prototyping, validation, and production release
- Comfortable working in machine shops and assembling prototypes
- Experience with 3D sensing or LiDAR technologies is a plus
