Our Electrical Services Group is responsible for the dependable and reliable delivery of electricity to the TRIUMF site. The Electrical Services Group is also engaged in engineering support for site projects on electrical power distribution and infrastructure, and their implementation.

- Proficiency in CAD-based software, Solid Work and Microsoft Office applications such as, Excel and Word,

The basic function of this position is to provide electrical design and operational support services for the development and installation of TRIUMF’s electrical infrastructures and equipment associated with its operations. As an electrical technologist, you are capable of developing schematics and electrical systems layouts for low to high voltage environments. You will interact with engineers, designers, and various project controls on multi-disciplined projects. You must have experience in Access Data Base, 2D and 3D electrical layout design using commercially available CAD platforms such as Drafsight, SolidWorks.
Responsibilities
- Performs detailed design work in support of electrical services equipment.
- Prepares working drawings and specifications for new electrical services projects or modifications to existing systems such as, grounding and lighting layouts, fire alarm system, single line diagrams, panel schedules, control wiring, layout plans and equipment arrangement.
- Development of cable tray design and engineering dwgs under responsibilities.
- Works closely with installers and maintainers to provide a timely update of project drawings and all site electrical services drawings, schedules, databases and procedures to incorporate expansions, modifications and revisions.
- Provides assistance to multi-disciplinary project teams in specifying and procuring parts and equipment.
- Prepare work plans so that deadlines can be met.
- Keeps informed of advances in technology and equipment, and updates knowledge as required.
- Develops and maintains standards, best practices, and new initiatives.
- May be required to oversee work performed by a more junior technician or provide supervision and/or coordination of installation work and contractors.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Participate in a formal health and safety program.
Knowledge And Skills
- The incumbent must have a full understanding of the electrical design process using project specifications and associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards and procedures.
- They are required to work well under pressure and possess considerable initiative, planning, and organization skills.
- Proficiency in CAD-based software, Solid Work and Microsoft Office applications such as, Excel and Word is also required.
- Proven hands-on experience in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, electrical design and integration projects.
- Strong organizational abilities, good interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are all required.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical code, industry standards and practices as well as a solid understanding of current construction methods and procedures in the electro-technology fields, including safety practices.
Nuclear Energy Worker
The position requires the incumbent to be trained and designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). Given that the position may, on occasion require electrical work to be done in radioactive areas or on systems involving radioactive components, the successful candidate will receive an in-house radiation training course to be designated as a TRIUMF NEW.
Minimum Qualifications And Years Of Experience
Minimum qualifications for this position include a diploma as an electrical technologist from a recognized technical institute, or the demonstrated equivalent in training and education, with 7+ years of work experience in industrial design/drafting, specializing in electro-power technology.
Experience will include circuit and system design, equipment layout and plans, construction methods, detailed specifications, installations and commissioning. Prior field work experience in electrical systems operation, maintenance and power quality, electrical controls, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, uninterruptible power supply and power distribution equipment will be considered an asset.
