Req Id: 35903 Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer City: West Lafayette Job Description: * This position acts as a resource for the electrical engineering portion of facilities projects. These duties involve providing design, analysis, and field engineering support for projects and Physical Facilities programs. A successful individual in this role will be an EIT or PE licensed engineer comfortable with providing insight on key project decisions. This individual will be expected to work independently with limited supervision, utilizing broad experience and training to solve complex problems. What you will be doing: * Provide seasoned professional electrical project engineering support through review, research, analysis, design, communication, coordination, and field observation activities * Guide project teams to ensure successful execution of electrical project scope * Collaborate with project managers to resolve engineering challenges * Review and provide expert feedback on engineering work from external firms * Work closely with cross-functional teams throughout project lifecycles * Offer post-project facility engineering consultation * Support operations and maintenance staff with facilities engineering expertise * Contribute to building condition assessments and University design standards Our ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with extensive experience in electrical engineering, particularly in large-scale facility projects. Capital Asset Management is responsible for capital construction project planning, design, and delivery. The department collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, other internal Purdue departments, and service providers to meet the campus community's needs. What We're Looking For: Education and Experience: * A Master of Science in planetary science, Earth science, or a related field * Minimum five (5) years of experience in the field of electrical engineering * Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building electrical systems * Consideration for equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred: * Indiana F.E. or Indiana P.E. (if needed, the department will pay for the exam) * Experience with: * electrical metering, arc flash analysis, short circuit coordination studies, and lighting and power design * energy efficient design concepts * AutoCAD or Microstation drafting experience Skills Needed: * Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques of engineering planning; of equipment and materials used in engineering operations; of specialized subjects used in the fields of engineering, such as mathematics, statistics, mechanics, power, physics, and chemistry; and of strength of materials * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Ability to: * apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; to use engineering equipment and tools, including computer applications; to make, read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications * relate abstract ideas to actual needs and adopt an effective course of action * establish and maintain effective working relationships with others * perform Independent activities with limited engineering oversight, guidance and assistance * analyze and design engineering solutions with limited engineering oversight * exercise seasoned professional judgment within a broad framework Additional Information: * Purdue University will not sponsor employment authorization for this position * A background check will be required for employment in this position * FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime) * Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting Period * Benefit Statement: Purdue University offers a substantial Benefit Package including medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as a generous paid time off package for sick and vacation days Who We Are: At Purdue, you'll be part of a vibrant community that values diversity, innovation, and excellence.
