Role Description
Sr. Electrical Engineer is expected to work as a part of a team to understand and clarify product requirements, implement, and document the design using standard tools, test and release and work with manufacturing and service teams to help them understand the design. In addition, the Sr. Engineer is responsible for leading small teams at various points in the development process, providing direction, and taking responsibility for the timely execution of planned Electrical Engineering work.
Essential Duties
· Designing and developing circuits using electrical engineering principles and commonly available components such as microcontrollers, passive components, semiconductors, sensors, interconnect components, and similar components.
· Creating designs that meet the stated requirements including any cost and safety/regulatory requirements.
· Designing and developing systems using prepackaged devices with standard interfaces such as controllers, indicators, power supplies, I/O devices, relays, and similar control system components.
· Analyzing existing circuits and their physical implementation to understand their behavior and identify design defects with goal of performance improvement.
· Building and testing prototypes to evaluate and validate design concepts; analyzing test results, identify issues, and propose optimization solutions.
· Working with common test equipment such as various types of meters, oscilloscopes, and specialized hardware instruments.
· Testing and qualifying hardware components to demonstrate their applicability to a particular design.
· Completing functionality and performance tests on the final product.
· Collaborating with firmware and software developers to ensure the hardware functions and can be tested for its intended purpose.
· Collaborating with Engineering Services, Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and other company groups to move a hardware design into production successfully.
· Working with the Quality and Manufacturing groups to ensure that customer reported problems with products are analyzed to the root cause.
· Working with customers using communication tools or in person to understand product issues.
· Ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards, relevant industry standards, codes, and electrical design and implementation regulations.
Qualifications
· A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with 5+ years’ experience.
· Analytical thinking with good problem-solving abilities and the ability to capture details and negotiate priorities.
· A strong background in circuit analysis using Electrical Engineering principles.
· Ability to work with an understanding of the design restrictions, cost, and timing, and to work with Product Management, Project Management and other teams’ members to meet those goals.
· Direct design experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit simulation tools in current use at the company.
· Ability to work as an individual contributor independently and as part of a team with local and remote members.
· Ability to skillfully use standard Electrical Engineering tools such as meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems and the related software for each tool.
· Solid working knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office tools.
· Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication with staff from multicultural backgrounds using verbal communication, email, and other communication tools.
· Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous priorities and communicate effectively with project stakeholders and managers about those priorities.
