Summary

Job Title: Senior EC&I Engineer

Location: Reading/ hybrid

Job Type: Long term contract - outside of scope of IR35 pending determination OR staff

Working Pattern: 9-Day Fortnight

Clearance Required: Minimum current SC Clearance is required to be considered for this role


Overview:

We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to support the delivery of complex engineering design and commissioning projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work on highly regulated, technically demanding projects within a supportive and skilled team environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in EC&I design, controls, and functional safety, with the ability to deliver projects from initial concept through to commissioning and handover.


Key Responsibilities:


EC&I Design and Delivery

  • Develop EC&I design concepts, including SLDs, cable schedules, block cable diagrams, equipment layouts, and more
  • Prepare functional safety documentation (e.g. FDS, SIDD, Functional Safety Plans)
  • Produce technical specifications, design justification reports, and design substantiation documentation
  • Generate commissioning documents such as FAT and SAT
  • Ensure designs are compliant with relevant UK and European standards and meet client specifications
  • Contribute to the development of control system hardware/software and safety interlock systems
  • Witness and support commissioning activities on-site


Technical Competency

  • Interpret and produce engineering drawings using tools such as AutoCAD
  • Author a range of engineering documentation including basis of design reports, calculation reports, and risk assessments
  • Understand technical requirements of projects and collaborate with specialists as needed
  • Ensure that all solutions address operability, maintainability, and safety


Commercial Awareness & Bid Support

  • Provide technical support for tenders, proposals, and client enquiries
  • Identify scope changes and support estimation of costs and contract variations
  • Promote company capability and reputation through external engagement where appropriate



Qualifications and Skills:


Essential:

  • Degree or HNC in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering (or demonstrable equivalent experience)
  • Experience in the design of electrical systems, control panels, and low-voltage systems
  • Broad-based engineering background with hands-on involvement in both design and delivery
  • Proven experience with control systems and functional safety (BS EN 61508 / 61511)
  • Ability to work with technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Experience in managing or overseeing commissioning activities


Desirable:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Knowledge of CE marking and machine safety directives
  • Familiarity with HAZOP / HAZID processes
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar tools
