We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic team, where you'll lead database strategy and operations while working with cutting-edge technologies. Responsibilities
Proactively ensure database availability and stability by identifying and resolving issues, overseeing operations, planning maintenance activities, and performing root cause analysis
Maintain clear communication with the line manager and stakeholders, keeping them informed about progress, challenges, and solutions
Mentor and train junior staff, enabling them to master critical database processes and technologies
Review and approve database deployments with an emphasis on precision and adherence to best practices
Collaborate with architects and senior teams to support technical designs and provide expert guidance
Take ownership of installing new database infrastructure and equipment, ensuring readiness and efficiency
Perform comprehensive impact analysis for database activities, understanding potential effects on systems and business operations
Respond swiftly to issues and support calls, adhering to relevant procedures, including those concerning security
Participate in an On-Call rotation to handle off-peak issues and out-of-hours maintenance as needed
Requirements
3+ years of experience in Database Administration
Expertise in supporting various RDBMS products in enterprise environments, particularly Microsoft SQL Server, Aurora, and Redshift
Proficiency in working with Amazon (AWS) public cloud services and associated DBaaS technologies such as Relational Database Services (RDS)
Capability to perform deep dives into database infrastructure issues, delivering fixes and optimizations
Strong foundation in database infrastructure, maintenance, administration, and design
Proven experience with enterprise database high availability techniques, such as mirroring, replication, and Always-On solutions
Background in developing and maintaining performance or reporting metrics
Competency to act as a subject matter expert, advising team members on best practices
Collaboration skills with a team-first mindset and focus on organizational goals
Expert troubleshooting abilities with large T-SQL scripts, nested stored procedures, functions, and triggers
Understanding of Agile methodologies
Fluency in English (both written and spoken) at a minimum B2 level
Nice to have
Familiarity with additional AWS cloud services like EC2, S3 storage, security groups, NACLs, and other infrastructure resources
Experience in system and application monitoring tools such as SentryOne, IPMonitor, Datadog, Cloudwatch, Grafana, etc.
Knowledge of change control processes and associated procedures
Background in incident management and response
Working knowledge of Redgate products like the DBA Toolbelt
