Job Title: Senior Converting Controls Engineer

A leading manufacturer is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join its expanding Controls Engineering Department in Paterson, New Jersey. This is a critical, high-visibility position that will serve as the Controls Lead for large projects, ensuring project success from order intake through final site acceptance.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in web handling technologies, strong leadership skills across project phases, and the ability to drive technical excellence in both hardware and software solutions.
Lead all controls engineering aspects for large machinery projects.
Attend customer meetings and interface directly with clients and project teams.
Select control system components and oversee generation of electrical drawing packages.
Interface closely with Mechanical Engineering teams to ensure complete system integration.
Perform PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, process controls, and drive/motion configuration (VFDs and Servo Motors).
Support machine testing, quality inspections, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) at the main facility.
Travel to domestic and international customer sites to support system commissioning and start-ups.
Contribute to internal initiatives such as product standardization, software development, and junior staff mentoring.
Hybrid Work: Up to 50% remote flexibility.
Factory Support: 15-25% for machine inspection, testing, and FAT.
Travel: 20-35% to customer sites (domestic and international).
2+ years experience in programming/process controls for web converting, web handling, winding, or similar technologies.
5+ years experience configuring and commissioning VFD and servo drive systems.
10+ years experience in PLC programming and software development; Allen-Bradley GuardLogix expertise required. (Siemens TIA Portal experience a plus.)
5+ years experience providing on-site installation, troubleshooting, and start-up services in industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of Machine Operator Safety Standards and experience generating operator risk assessments and certifying equipment to SIL safety ratings.
Experience developing HMI and SCADA systems; familiarity with Wonderware, FactoryTalk Machine Edition, and FactoryTalk Site Edition is a plus.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction and internal coordination.
