We value a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture where our people are empowered to think big, grow professionally, and make meaningful contributions every day.
We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst who’s equal parts data detective and financial analyst. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you'll lead our business intelligence and financial reporting initiatives, while diving deep into the analytics yourself. You will lead our business intelligence and reporting initiatives while directly performing much of the analytical work yourself. You will be responsible for transforming our financial data into actionable insights, enhancing reporting processes, conducting profitability analyses, and managing our financial systems.
This position is ideal for a technically skilled professional who enjoys the practical aspects of financial data analysis and system optimization, while also having the interpersonal skills to effectively supervise and collaborate with others. You will leverage your expertise in SQL, DAX, and Power BI, combined with your understanding of law firm economics, to support strategic decision-making across our diverse practice areas.
Our mid-sized firm environment offers the unique advantage of exposure to a full range of business and litigation services, providing rich opportunities for cross-practice analysis and insights. The successful candidate will appreciate the stability and depth of experience our firm offers, along with the satisfaction of building and maintaining critical financial intelligence systems that directly impact firm performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Personally develop and maintain advanced financial reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI, focusing on timekeeper statistics, matter profitability, and practice area performance metrics.
- Work alongside the Controller during month-end close processes for 3E Cloud, ensuring data integrity and producing monthly financial reporting packages.
- Conduct detailed practice area analyses across our diverse portfolio of business and litigation services, identifying trends and performance insights.
- Create clear, concise visual presentations of financial data tailored to various stakeholders, from practice group leaders to executive management.
- Co-administer financial reporting platforms including 3E Cloud and Data Insights, performing quality assurance reviews and managing user access.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and DAX expressions to create custom reports aligned with the specific needs of our various practice areas.
- Create documentation for financial reporting procedures to improve workflow efficiencies and establish consistent best practices.
- Support financial systems upgrades and implementations, ensuring minimal disruption to reporting capabilities.
- Analyze WIP and AR trends across multiple dimensions, with particular focus on various fee arrangement types (contingency, fixed fee, hourly, hybrid) and practice areas.
- Support production of reporting for the Compensation Committee, working with highly sensitive attorney performance data.
- Develop financial models to evaluate business decisions across our diverse practice groups.
- Lead special analytical projects addressing evolving business priorities.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in financial analysis and business intelligence, with at least 2 years in a mid-sized law firm or professional services environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse practice areas and multiple fee arrangement types (hourly, contingency, fixed fee, hybrid arrangements).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including data modeling, dashboard design, and DAX formula creation.
- Strong SQL skills with ability to write and optimize complex queries.
- Experience with Elite 3E Cloud and Data Insights platforms preferred.
- Understanding of law firm accounting principles, legal industry KPIs, and profitability metrics across different practice types.
- Ability to balance technical excellence with practical, actionable business insights.
- Strong communication skills with proven ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
- Previous experience directing or coordinating work of others would be helpful.
- Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, data analytics, accounting, or related discipline or equivalent related work experience.
- Professional certifications in Power BI, SQL, or Data Analysis preferred.
