Job Title: Payment Backend Developer

Work Type: Full Time - In Office

Salary Range: $140K - $170K annually + equity

About the Company:

We are currently working with a leading Canadian FinTech startup in their search for a Senior Backend Developer to join their team.

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering - you’ll design and develop a scalable, reliable, and secure backend that handles complex financial transactions with precision.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain a reliable financial ledger (double-entry)
• Design scalable, event-driven systems for processing payments
• Create secure APIs to connect with banks and partners
• Manage complex workflows for sending, reversing, and reconciling payments
• Ensure systems are accurate, compliant, and fully auditable

Qualifications:

• 5+ years backend experience, including 3+ in fintech or payments
• Strong knowledge of ledgers, reconciliation, and financial data
• Experience with distributed systems and tools like Kafka
• Familiarity with workflow tools like Temporal.io (or similar)
• Focus on accuracy, security, and building systems that scale
