About The Role
Boston University Admissions seeks a Senior Assistant Director for Admissions Marketing and Communications. This individual will develop content in support of admissions marketing and communications strategy to position Boston University as a world-class teaching and research university committed to undergraduate education. This position requires a strategic understanding of how to tailor and repurpose content across many marketing channels, such as email or websites, but primarily manages nearly 50 high-profile print publications. This individual will supervise one Marketing and Communications specialist.
The Senior Assistant Director works closely with admissions staff to develop core messaging to persuasively convey the benefits and value of a BU education to prospective students, parents, high school principals/headmasters, and guidance counselors. This individual also works with BU Creative Services, BU Photography, external vendors, and an extensive network of contacts in BU’s 10 undergraduate schools and colleges and throughout the University to research, write content, and manage projects from concept through final production.
The Senior Assistant Director’s Primary Duties Include
- Working with admissions staff to develop core messaging for admissions print publications, emails, talking points, videos, and website;
- Developing copy to attract, influence, and inform target audiences regarding the value and unique benefits of a BU education;
- Management of approximately 50 admissions print projects per year from concept development and design, through final production including: 45-page Viewbook; Financial Aid, Transfer Student, and Early Inquiry brochures; Campus Visit Booklet; international and domestic travel handouts; and others;
- Writing and editing copy for new and existing publications, the admissions website, letters, and targeted editorial e-mails;
- Writing content and provision of University statistics for more than 35 outside print and web publications (Princeton Review, Hobsons, College Board, Peterson’s Guide, etc.);
- Researching content to support core marketing themes and working with BU school and college administrators, students, and alumni to develop testimonials, video concepts, and profiles for admissions publications;
- Developing design concepts and curating photography for small print projects utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign to create print-ready files, supervising outside vendors in production and delivery of each piece;
- Curating digital content for the Alan and Sherry Leventhal Center, BU’s Admissions Reception Center, to ensure messaging is on target for campus visitors;
- Proofreading, copy editing, and fact-checking 50+ print projects per year, plus every letter and e-mail template sent by Admissions office (totaling more than 1,000), monitoring adherence to admissions core messaging, BU Brand standards, and University style guidelines;
- Working closely with BU Creative Services on the development of admissions marketing and communications projects;
- Providing direction on core messaging and themes for publications;
- Consulting on concept, design, layout, and print specifications;
- Overseeing the work of Account Executives to ensure writers, photographers, illustrators, and designers are on track for print publications;
- Working with BU Photography to research and plan photography shoots for use in print publications, emails, and on admissions website, and;
- Tracking and document estimates and billing for all creative services-related projects within budget.

About The Candidate
A Bachelor’s Degree is a requirement for this position. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:
- Has at least two years of previous experience in a similar role;
- Has an understanding of marketing and college admissions experience;
- Displays strong project management skills;
- Possesses excellent writing, editing, and interviewing skills;
- Is detail-oriented;
- Is able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and;
- Has prior supervisory experience.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and WordPress is preferred, but not a requirement.
