Location: California residency required. We are a remote-first work environment with a strong preference to hire staff within a 100-mile radius of San Mateo County. Employees are expected to attend in-person meetings (generally monthly/quarterly) at our Redwood City office. Other meetings may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Analyst, Innovation Strategy (IS) is a new position, working under the direction of the Associate Director of Innovation Strategy at Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) and supports the initial implementation of cross-functional advanced energy initiatives across the organization. Those initiatives can include the early-stage investigation of new areas of work that PCE would like to engage in as well as the pursuit of public funding opportunities to diversify PCE’s revenue streams. The Senior Analyst is also expected to follow cutting-edge energy trends in California to identify emerging trends and investigate potential opportunities for PCE engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to support innovation and engage in emerging areas of work while supporting PCE’s mission of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
This new role will support the Associate Director of Innovation Strategy in all activities related to PCE’s early-stage investigation and initial implementation of advanced energy initiatives that require cross-departmental strategy development and project management. The Innovation Strategy department will lead the initial assessment and rollout of a new energy initiative before ensuring a smooth transition to the implementing department. This role will be responsible for providing content expertise as well as administrative support to the Department head and ensure effective and efficient cross-departmental coordination on initiatives. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, has strong attention to detail, and is able to support activities across multiple projects.
Examples of Duties
- Early-Stage Innovation Projects: Support the Innovation Strategy department head in coordinating the “first 20%” of cross-functional energy initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, opportunity assessment, and internal alignment. A current example is the collaboration on front-of-the-meter distribution resources and the implementation of a new Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).
- Project Management: Develop and manage workplans, timelines, and resource needs to successfully launch emerging initiatives prior to transition to implementation teams.
- Cross-Departmental Coordination: Facilitate collaboration among PCE departments to ensure alignment on emergent opportunities. Identify roles and responsibilities for cross-departmental participation in new initiatives.
- Public Funding and Revenue Diversification: Identify and assess public funding opportunities to support advanced energy initiatives and diversify revenue streams. Support funding applications both as a subject matter expert (SME) and as the administrative lead. If funding is won, establish processes and procedures to ensure a smooth transition of the project to the implementing team(s).
- Emerging Trends and Energy Expertise: Monitor and analyze trends in the California energy landscape, with a focus on distributed energy resources (DERs), grid-edge technologies, and equitable energy access. Grow into an SME for PCE’s regulatory and legislative teams.
- Strategic Analysis and Reporting: Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform strategic decisions related to emerging energy opportunities. Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and internal reports for executive management, board members, and external stakeholders under the direction of the Department head.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, public agencies, regulators, and vendors.
- Departmental Development: Contribute to the ongoing development of the IS Department’s strategy, processes, and performance metrics.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience/Education:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, preferably in energy program implementation or regulatory advocacy in the energy industry.
- Strong project management skills and a proven ability to support mid-scale projects from initiation to successful completion, delivering measurable outcomes. Skilled in managing competing priorities and ensuring cohesive execution across cross-functional teams.
- Experience with implementing customer energy programs in California
- Knowledge of advanced energy initiatives, particular in the area of DERs and customer-sited energy solutions
- Highly organized, has strong attention to detail, able to support activities across multiple projects and project partners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with streamlining workflows and improving efficiency.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with a diverse range of partners. Ability to explain technical details effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
Required Knowledge of:
- Principles of electric generation, and in particular renewable energy technologies.
- Knowledge and experience in customer energy programs in California
- Knowledge and experience in any of these areas is a plus: solar systems, energy storage, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, demand response programs, energy efficiency, micro-grids, and other innovative energy technologies.
- Experience working on policy advocacy is a plus
