The candidate will develop meshes and models, execute analyses using local and DoD high performance computing systems, evaluate component and system failure modes, compute component structural margins, conduct trade studies of various loading conditions and alternate materials, document and present results, investigate innovative modeling techniques, and collaborate with a national team on design decisions. Prior experience with high-speed aerospace structures, or with Sandia National Lab's SIERRA tool suite are preferred but not required. Opportunities are available to support test events, lead analysis projects, conduct research, and develop new and emerging technologies and capabilities.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include:
* Perform high-fidelity computational physics analysis using finite element software tools to assess the structural survivability of hypersonic weapon concepts and test hardware.
* Engage with national teams supporting the development and fielding of new weapon concepts and provide computational modeling subject matter expertise.
* Generate briefing materials, documentation, reports and other artifacts to inform programmatic and design decisions.
Qualifications
Required education and experience:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering Discipline and five (5) or more years experience; Master's and three (3) years or more experience; years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Required skills:
* Ability to work as a team member and to develop solutions through background investigation, research, and discussion.
* Ability to use advanced techniques and to modify and extend theories, precepts and practices in the areas of structural and/or coupled fluid-thermal-structural design and analysis.
* Ability to plan and coordinate individual assignments as well as assignments for others to meet project goals.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Understanding of computational mesh generation principles and proficiency with mesh generation tools.
* Proficiency in commercial or government off the shelf finite element, finite volume or finite difference solvers applied to structural problems (Sierra Solid Mechanics or Abaqus preferred).
* Experience with high-performance computing resources, composite materials, high-temperature effects, or failure modes.
Required clearance:
* Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
