About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Acoustic Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Implant Technologies team. It is the mission of the team to develop and deliver scientific knowledge and foundations, technology building blocks, innovative and disruptive ideas and proof of concepts for Cochlear's future implant portfolio. This role is funded for a period of three years as part of an externally funded project. The initial funding is secured for this duration, with the possibility of extension beyond three years contingent upon securing additional funding.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Concept Development and System Integration:

    • Develop and optimize new acoustic technologies and features to improve hearing performance
    • Conduct engineering analysis activities including brainstorming, concept generation, risk analysis, and design reviews
    • Prepare and execute test plans, protocols, and reports
    • Manage the development of (sub)system requirements and contribute to patent generation and intellectual property
  • Subject Matter Expert in Acoustics:

    • Act as the go-to person for technical challenges in acoustics
    • Support the team by sharing knowledge and coaching others
    • Scout for new technologies and develop supporting/training material
    • Maintain measurement systems and test configurations to evaluate device and system performance
  • Personal Impact and Communication:

    • Communicate effectively across multiple teams and mitigate team conflicts
    • Network and collaborate with external partners
    • Mentor students and/or junior engineers



Qualifications:

  • Minimum Requirements:

    • Master's degree (or equivalent by experience) or higher in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, or a related field
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience
    • Strong understanding of acoustic and analog electronic principles and technologies
    • Proficient with Matlab and understanding of V&V principles
    • Strong knowledge of technical English and excellent communication skills
  • Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably medical devices
    • Experience in low power circuits and micro-electronic circuits
    • Proficiency in using acoustic modeling and simulation tools
    • Proven ability to design and develop acoustic systems with a holistic, systems-oriented approach
