Summary

Job Title: Part-Time Accounting Specialist (Month-End & Quarter-End Close)

Location: Remote in San Diego, CA

Duration: 6 Months with possible extension

Pay: $42-$45/hr.

Schedule: Part-Time (8–9 days/month)

Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Specialist to support our month-end and quarter-end close processes. This part-time contract role is ideal for professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments and have strong month-end close and accruals experience. The position will focus on the last 5–6 business days of each month and the first 2–3 business days of the following month, totaling approximately 8–9 full working days monthly. Candidates must be available during these key dates and should not have any time off planned during this period. Weekend work may occasionally be required.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Service PO Accrual (SPOA) process by preparing, testing, and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Apply GAAP accounting principles to ensure accurate and well-substantiated accounting entries.
  • Collaborate with requestors and financial analysts to prepare monthly accruals.
  • Assist in analyzing and preparing accrual data with the SPOA database manager.
  • Identify and report errors related to Procurement and Accounts Payable for correction.
  • Cross-train and support other Corporate Accounting responsibilities during peak times.
  • Design and improve desk procedures and process flows with a focus on internal control and efficiency.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3–4 years of relevant experience in accounting, purchasing, or accounts payable.
  • Proven experience with month-end close and accruals.
  • Experience working in an enterprise-level, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Oracle, Coupa, QuickBase.
  • Experience handling purchase orders and invoices.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, Public Accountant, or Controller background is a plus.
