The Security Manager will be responsible for the safety and security of staff, volunteers, facilities, and Mission guests. They will lead a team of employees and interns to enhance safety and security throughout the Mission. Area of responsibilities includes all Mission properties and all aspects of security from prevention to intervention, scheduling, training, team building, planning, compliance, reporting, de-escalation, and more as directed.
Starting starting pay: $29.62/hourly
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
How You Will Serve
- Manage a security team that protects Mission employees, residents and volunteers.
- Advise and update all staff on security status and any imminent threats to Mission programming, property or personnel.
- Conduct safety training to Mission employees, residents and volunteers that includes de-escalation, escape and evade techniques and reporting procedures.
- Enforce policies with Mission residents, homeless neighbors outside facilities to include proactive outreach and engagement with homeless neighbors that are loitering on or around Mission properties.
- Provide assistance and referral to homeless neighbors who are experiencing crises caused by mental illness and/or excessive drug/alcohol consumption.
- Documenting and communicating repeated violations of the Missions policies.
- Intervene in client crises (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
- Participate in weekly team meetings and working with other departments at the Seattle's Union Gospel Mission as necessary.
- Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with guests.
- Think and act collaboratively with staff and guests to improve safety and cleanliness.
- Calling or coordinating the calling of 9-1-1 to address emergency situations.
- Discourage and report predatory and/or illicit behavior.
- Commitment to the grace based therapeutic model and incorporating it into all aspects of the position.
- Attend and participate in all Mission, Division and Department meetings and training, as required.
- Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
How You Qualify
- Acknowledge and sign the Mission's Statement of Faith (see below).
- An associate degree is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. A combination of education and four years of relatable experience may be substituted.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- 3 years’ experience in the human services field (paid or volunteer), preferably working with adults challenged by homelessness, mental illness and/or chemical dependency required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in at least one of the following areas required; Public Safety, Security, Law Enforcement or Military.
- Trained in Mental Health First Aid preferred but not required.
- Must possess a valid unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License (license holder for at least 1 year) and be able to meet the standards of the Mission driver criteria required, including but not limited to:
- Clean driving record
- No current suspensions or revocations in the last 3 years
- At least 21 years of age

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a varied environment. Occasionally will sit, balance, twist, stoop, kneel and reach with hands/arms. Frequently uses good judgement in relationship building and to de-escalate situations. Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds and walks, use stairways to climb to multiple floors within the company. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
