Reporting to the Assistant Director of Protective Services, the Protective Services Manager oversee all Museum security guard operations and provide security management support for all DPS initiatives. This responsibility includes all Museum on and off-site facilities to ensure consistency in guard force operations. They are directly responsible for all guards on duty, to include the DPS Supervisors and any contract guards. They are responsible for routine Museum security operations as well as any special events or functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Directly supervise the protective services guard force operations and supervisors. Ensure the Supervisors follow the applicable policies and procedures of the Museum and Protective Services Department and that they do the same with the guards below them.
Work closely with the Command Center Operations to ensure collaboration with security operations on every shift. Ensure two-way communication with the Command Center to ensure security situations and concerns receive proper responses and the team follows any applicable policy and procedures.
Manager is responsible for the hiring, training, coaching, mentoring and supervision of the supervisors and guard force. This includes training and tracking required training as needed. Ensures all supervisors and guards follow applicable Museum or Protective Services policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Work closely with Protection Specialists, to oversee the guard force operations during special events/programming. Ensure the Supervisors and Guards know the logistics of the special event/programming, including crowd management and control; understand their role and follow through on any instructions.
Investigate and report on any incidents that occur with supervisors, guards and visitors. Notify the appropriate personnel to include Museum staff of any incident, according to MFA/DPS policy and procedures.
Be familiar with the electronic security systems and how to operate them for smooth operations and notify the appropriate staff if anything fails to work correctly (Ex. Visitor management, patrol systems, access control, etc.)
Must know and adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement understand and ensure proper interpretation. The Manager must ensure the supervisors and guards do not take any action that clearly violates this contract. Investigate and respond to step one grievances and work closely with the assistant director to manage the process through fruition.
The Manager is responsible for the performance management of supervisors and guards, including applying the progressive disciplinary process and making further recommendations to the DPS senior management, as necessary. Performance Management also includes completing and conducting annual performance reviews for guards and supervisors.
Acquire and maintain any special certifications required by the Museum, to include CPR, AED, First Aid and any other First Responder training. Respond to any call for medical assistance, render aid necessary and call for further assistance when needed.
Perform all scheduling of supervisors and guards for both routine and special events/programming. Responsible for ensuring an adequate number of supervisors and guards are scheduled and posted for each shift. Should a shortage occur they must immediately notify the DPS Senior Management.
Manager must not speak of the Museum’s security program to anyone outside of the department. Information on the security system, policy and/or procedures remains confidential information not to be shared.
Manager is required to ensure proper coverage for all supervisor and guard rolls and as needed, provide coverage during shortages or other urgent situations as determined by DPS leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/CHARACTERISTICS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience managing teams in a complex, fast- paced and security centric environment
Experience with hiring, training and coaching, as well as motivating and inspiring a team to elicit strong performance and accountability
Demonstrated experience addressing underperformance and applying appropriate disciplinary action as necessary
Knowledge of human resources and management principles including interviewing techniques, and managing job performance.
Works closely with Human Resources department to develop and follow through with performance related issues.
Provides guidance and leadership to senior management in any security / safety related issue or incident.
Ability to assess the criticality and impact of an incident.
Recommends, develops and implements policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains meaningful cross-departmental relationships throughout the Museum
Experience conducting risk assessments and physical security surveys and making recommendations based on those findings.
Familiarity with budget planning and administrative processes.
Familiarity with alarm monitoring and access control systems.
Work with protection specialists and other departments in coordinating special events and employing security operations plans for those events.
Conduct training sessions to ensure staff are current on all policies, procedures and related/required certifications/memberships.
Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and other related certifications on a yearly basis
Must be physically able to administer First Aid and CPR including carrying first aid equipment and assisting with lifting and moving victims if required.
Meets regularly with other department stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of the Museum.
Knowledge of contingency planning and investigations.

Full-Time Salary
$70,000 - $72,000 per year
