Summary

Responsibilities

Job Description

  • Support the financial reporting process, including the preparation of quarterly, annual, and current reports for SEC filings (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K).
  • Prepare supporting workpapers, SEC/U.S. GAAP disclosure checklists, and eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly earnings release materials and the annual statistical report.
  • Create monthly workpapers and consolidating journal entries to support consolidated financial statements and fluctuation analyses for senior management reports.
  • Collaborate with accounting teams and various departments (e.g., business units, legal, finance) across Sempra and its subsidiaries for data collection and issue resolution during monthly and quarterly financial close processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including upgrades to financial reporting software (Workiva).
  • Conduct technical accounting and SEC research related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned (no more than 5% of responsibilities).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related business administration field (required).
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional certifications/advanced degrees (preferred).

Experience

  • 2.5+ years’ experience in an audit/assurance practice of a public accounting firm.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • Must be willing to work on a hybrid work schedule.
  • Big Four accounting experience or CPA (preferred).

Skills And Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and its application in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset and ability to foster positive working relationships across departments.
  • Self-motivated with energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Experience with Workiva (Wdesk) and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) is desirable.
