The SCADA Engineer will support the deployment, integration, and optimization of SCADA and energy monitoring systems across our solar and energy storage projects. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with energy simulations, electrical engineering, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure that site performance aligns with projections and that monitoring systems are configured accurately and maintained effectively. This role involves detailed review and creation of configuration files, integration of DAS components, development of protection and control systems for MV relays, and active participation in field support. The SCADA Engineer will also play a key role in process improvement, contractor evaluation, and ensuring seamless data communication across platforms to optimize energy performance and operational efficiency.
What you'll do:
Collaborate with the Energy Simulations team to monitor energy production and implement strategies to align actual output with projected numbers.
Analyze and review electrical engineering and DAS (Data Acquisition System) drawings to prepare necessary configuration files for site monitoring systems.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the preparation and management of configuration files for site monitoring.
Configuring and maintaining Data Acquisition Systems for Energy Management System (EMS) platforms
Coordinate with Construction, Commissioning and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams to resolve any on-site issues, ensuring optimal project performance.
Identify and suggest improvements in project execution, focusing on optimizing energy production and operational efficiency.
Optimize energy management systems for improved performance and cost-effectiveness.
Support the evaluation and onboarding of electrical testing and system integration contractors by reviewing their technical capabilities, compliance standards, and integration experience
Work closely with engineers, technicians, electrical contractors and other stakeholders to maintain seamless communication across departments.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align energy goals with broader organizational objectives and ensure project success.
Work on solar and storage projects to ensure appropriate SCADA integration with respect to BESS, Inverters, Trackers, Meteorological sensors and more.
Manage central HMI interface, Develop and review HMI narratives to show organization of pages, devices, points, controls, alarms and more.
Develop relay configuration files for MV (Medium Voltage) relays used for protection and control at solar sites in coordination with PSS and Commissioning Teams
Provide field support for reading, accessing, and setting relay configuration files.
Design and create control drawings for relay protection, including wiring diagrams, relay schematics, protection panels, one-line, and three-line diagrams.
What you'll need:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems degree preferred. Other engineering degrees and a combination of industry experience will also be considered.
3-5 years’ experience in the Solar and/or Bulk Energy Storage Industry, with established expertise in SCADA system integration, or commissioning preferably in renewable energy commissioning
Hands-on experience with configuring and managing Data Acquisition Systems (DAS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), or SCADA platforms.
Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of SCADA and controls system
Experience with PV system performance analysis and familiarity with tools such as PVSyst is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of MV protection systems and relay setting/configuration (SEL, ABB, or similar platforms).
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines by setting priorities
Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams
Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
3+ years of experience with operations of SCADA, DAS and UPS system
OSHA 10 Certified
NABCEP Certified
Knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NFPA) related to solar and electrical systems is a plus.
Willingness and ability to clearly define objectives, exercise sound technical judgment, take on increasing levels of responsibility and to thrive in a small, flexible and dynamic work environment.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate in a positive manner with project managers, other engineering/design team members, management and installation contractors to foster an environment of superior coordination.
