We have a contract opportunity for a Senior SCADA Engineer (Cybersecurity) will serve as the technical lead for the design, development, security, and daily support of Metropolitan’s SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) network infrastructure. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and cybersecurity of critical Industrial Control Systems (ICS), leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies in network and security architecture.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hands-on experience working with SCADA and ICS environments, deep knowledge of networking protocols, and proven expertise in designing and maintaining secure, high-availability control system infrastructures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical lead for SCADA Network and Cybersecurity infrastructure efforts, including design, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Design and implement secure ICS LAN/WAN architectures using EIGRP, BGP, VLAN, and VPN technologies.
- Configure, manage, and maintain network equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls within the SCADA environment.
- Support integration and communication with field devices using SCADA protocols including Modbus, DNP3, and CIP.
- Collaborate with internal IT, cybersecurity, and project management teams, as well as external consultants, to deliver robust SCADA solutions and enhancements.
- Perform risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and ICS-specific cybersecurity evaluations.
- Configure and administer cyber tools, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems to monitor and mitigate cyber threats.
- Generate detailed network topology maps, documentation, and cybersecurity reports in support of audits and compliance reviews.
- Develop, implement, and maintain network and cybersecurity procedures, manuals, test scripts, and disaster recovery plans.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance with standards such as NERC CIP, NIST, or other industry-specific guidelines.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and vendor solutions for improving SCADA network security posture.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-event investigations for SCADA-related cybersecurity incidents.
- Ensure seamless integration of SCADA systems with communication technologies including cellular, microwave, and telco services.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in SCADA, ICS, or control systems engineering with a focus on cybersecurity.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, CIP).
- Expertise in LAN/WAN network design, configuration, and maintenance (VRF, VXLAN, VLAN, VPN, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with network security architectures, including firewall configuration and administration.
- Proficient in routing protocols, such as EIGRP and BGP.
- Familiarity with security auditing, risk mitigation, and compliance reporting.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools, event correlation systems, and intrusion detection/prevention solutions.
- Working knowledge of cellular and wireless communication technologies, microwave, and telco services.
- Strong technical writing skills for creating and maintaining detailed documentation, procedures, and security plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- Industry certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, CCNP Security, CompTIA Security+, or similar.
- Familiarity with SCADA-specific security frameworks and government regulations.
