Job Summary
The Plant Sanitation Manager is responsible for developing and directing the Sanitation program, and for ensuring that all current Food Safety Standards are being met throughout the site. The Sanitation Manager will train and develop all sanitation employees to be able to identify and control GMP issues and to enforce all current food safety standards. The Sanitation Manager will be responsible for communicating in a clear manner any Sanitation issues with the Plant Manager, Quality Manager, Maintenance Manager, Business Unit Manager, Shipping Manager, all Line Foremen and Sanitation Staff. May interact with state and federal regulatory agencies. Will be primary point of contact for Pest Control Provider and Chemical Vendor for the facility.
Job Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Champion for employee safety by ensuring team members understand and follow all safety requirements per company policy.
- Leads the development of and implementation of an effective Sanitation program (MSS, daily sanitation, SSOPs, Food Safety Plan, Allergen, etc.) in compliance with customer, regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Ensures the sanitation crew has received adequate training on all relevant knowledge, skills and abilities for their roles.
- Provide an atmosphere that allows for the mentoring and development of team members and Sanitation leaders.
- Drives continual improvement of the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists with consumer complaint issues and leading plant teams in the direction necessary to minimize complaints.
- Collaborates effectively with Plant Manager and Quality Manager.
- Sanitation point of contact for all Third Party or Customer inspections.
- Assists with policy, procedures and paperwork to ensure that all Regulatory, Company and Customer standards are achieved in assigned plant.
- Manages Master Sanitation Schedule for assigned facility.
- Leads Continuous Improvement of facility sanitation.
- Participates in the development of the Sanitation budget.
- Manages Sanitation chemical control program.
- Manages Sanitation department.
- Works with the Quality Manager to identify and correct sanitation or environmental issues at assigned facility.
- Responsible for the integrated pest management (IPM) program.
- Other duties as identified or assigned by Plant Manager.
Knowledge Of
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES
- Sanitation related prerequisite programs for the food industry; including GMPs, MSS, SSOPs, training, Allergen Control, Chemical Control, Pest Control and others.
- Must be knowledgeable regarding requirements of federal agencies over the facility.
- Must understand the safety requirements of handling chemicals
- Must be knowledgeable in SQF or BRC auditing schemes.
- Must understand the 7 steps of dry and wet sanitation
- Good understanding of commercial food processing and/or food packaging equipment.

Proficiency In
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Food Science and Technology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or equivalent experience.
- OR *
- 5 plus years’ experience in food industry with at least 3 years in a Sanitation leadership role.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- It is expected that the manager will be on the production floor during a portion of the sanitation cycle.
- Environment may be cold, wet and/or humid in production areas.
- Production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, fork lifts, and fluctuations in temperature.
- Office setting on a daily basis.

The pay range for this full-time, salaried position is $85,788 - $128,682/year. Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive based on company and individual performance. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
