Job Title: Youth and Adult Sailing Instructor
Grade: I
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Department: Revenue Facilities
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Revenue Facilities Manager
BASIC FUNCTION
Teach participants the basics of sailing while ensuring a safe and fun environment.
Essential Duties
- Ensure that all boats are in working order.
- Arriving on time and keeping track of their hours.
- Plans and coordinates daily activities for campers, including preparing a lesson plan or using the one provided.
- Help teach participants sailing terminology and their uses on the water.
- Help ensure participants have the proper equipment on to sail.
- Maintain daily attendance.
- Evaluate participants.
- Having a first aid kit available at all times.
- Ensure the safety of all participants throughout all activities.
- Submit written reports including: accident and incident reports, supply requests, discipline reports, day off request forms, attendance rosters, and any other necessary reports.
Other Duties
- Put away all boat and camp equipment after class and back in storage at the end of week.
- Let Lake Park staff know of any accommodations you might need to successfully run camp for the day and week.
- Have prepared a lesson for a day when the weather does not allow camp to be outside.
- Adhere to Des Plaines Park District policies, procedures and safety standards.
Position Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or of higher education
Experience: At least 18 years of age or older
Previous sailing experience necessary
Some experience instructing sailing desired
Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification
Valid Illinois Driver’s License
