Summary Description

The Safety & Security Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for MSCS staff, students, and visitors. This position will provide security screening of all MSCS staff, visitors, and students at their assigned school, and will also provide security screening at athletic events and after-hour school activities to ensure the safety of everyone present.

  • Works collaboratively with school administrators, MSCS Officers and Law Enforcement during school hours and after hour events at school.
  • Oversees the security screening process of students, visitors and staff entering the school building daily, including hand-wand, physical, hands-free, and bag searches when necessary; ensures that 100% of students, staff and visitors are screened and/or cleared prior to entering school daily.
  • Completes all necessary training and certification in the operation of the new Weapons Detection System and X-ray machines; trains school staff and security personnel on how to operate machines.
  • Detects and immediately reports anyone entering the school without properly being cleared to enter the building to the appropriate school authorities.
  • Completes a daily electronic log of all activity at the end of the shift prior to leaving for the day.
  • Monitors suspicious activity and makes immediate notification to appropriate school authorities when needed.
  • Assists in monitoring student behavior on school property and works with staff when needed.
  • Assists schools with school openings and dismissal processes, as needed.
  • Demonstrates initiative and a proactive orientation in recognizing and resolving safety and security issues, concerns, or problems.
  • Checks passes of students leaving school property during the school day.
  • Exhibits support for the district vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
  • Responds to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.


High School degree or equivalent, and 2 years of experience in a relevant area for a total education/experience of 2 years.
