Job Summary: To promote and manage the health, safety, and security of all employees, contractors and visitors. To manage comprehensive safety, industrial hygiene and security programs by developing and conducting incident prevention programs, analyzing safety data and formulating written safety and security procedures as well as participating in safety inspections, and executive and employee safety committee meetings. The position will be responsible for the preparation and presentation of safety training programs and will have a key role in promoting the Plant’s positive community image by being an active participant in the Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA) and CAER activities, plus the Pasadena Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain accurate logs and records of incident reporting and investigations as well as OSHA 300 logs. Manage the confidentiality and accuracy of employee medical records, and workers compensation claims.
- Develop, implement and manage the industrial hygiene monitoring program. Report the sample findings according to the current local, state and federal regulations.
- Develop safety, emergency preparedness, incident prevention programs, conduct audits, and make recommendations for improvements to the programs.
- Support and advise the Employee Safety Committee.
- Promote, organize and maintain the plant Emergency Response Team, and ensure the team is properly trained and equipped for the types of emergencies they are expected to respond to. Coordinate regularly scheduled plant emergency drills.
- Participate in and monitor the activities of incident investigations and organize incident investigation training to ensure a thorough and complete process. Advise and participate in HAZOPS and pre-start-up safety reviews.
- Coordinate and advise on contractor safety issues and conduct audits on contractors’ safety programs.
- Prepare and present training programs that comply with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Enhance processes and systems to prevent injuries and occupational illnesses throughout the facility. Develop new fit-for-purpose programs based on trend analyses, risk identification, mitigation plans and audit findings.
- Communicate to management the status of plant compliance programs and recommend appropriate courses of action to achieve compliance goals.
- Provide leadership and collaborate with the medical and HR teams in managing and continuously improving the case management program. Coordinate with staff of safety coordinators who provide the most accurate workplace safety and industrial health, with rigorous analysis, to foster best-in-class occupational safety & health systematic processes, procedures and systems.
- Serve as a functional leader for Health and Safety, implement and execute business plans, strategies, goals and objectives to meet government, regional health and safety objectives. Develop training programs and systems to build capability for better anticipation, recognition, and evaluation of occupational safety and health hazards. Foster a spirit of continuous improvement in enhancing the overall management system.
- Establish strategic Health and Safety initiatives that help the facility to achieve their annual safety goals. Serve as subject matter expert to stay current on emerging regulations and best industry practices.
- Monitor safety performance through KPIs, development of leading and lagging indicators, trend analyses and auditing.
- Manage the site security program as the acting FSO (Facility Security Officer) and maintain the FSP (Facility Security Plan). Act as the lead on any and all USCG interactions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- SharePoint knowledge a plus.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.

Required Education/Experience:
- B.S. in Occupational Safety, Safety Science, Industrial Safety or other safety field; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Well versed in OSHA regulations, emergency response, rescue and emergency medical procedures.
- Knowledge of USCG/HSA a plus. Certified Safety Professional certification a plus.
- Must have a valid TWIC card or qualify to obtain one and a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws.
- Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision with drive toward accomplishment, and to produce high quality work.
