The Flight Systems Division develops space systems for the International Space Station, Dream Chaser and Deep Space Gateway. The work is multi-disciplinary, involving hardware, software and electronics. On average each year one of our systems will be launched to Low Earth Orbit or Lunar Orbit. The Division develops according to audited EN9100 processes and supports post-delivery/on-orbit operations.
Position
Software Engineers are key members in our Company’s product development processes. We are looking for a Safety-Critical Software Engineer to join the Avionics & Embedded Systems (AES) Team, whose activities cover the complete hardware system and software development lifecycle for several projects in space domain.
The successful candidate will be part of the Avionics & Embedded Systems (AES) Team of the Flight Systems Division in the Systems Department and will mainly report to the AES Team Lead.

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Carry out project work to develop software solutions for on-board critical functions, ensuring compliance with space engineering standards (ECSS, CCSDS) and adherence to safety processes and recommendations
- Integrate and customise existing software components to meet required safety and integrity levels
- Develop software specifications and requirements
- Produce comprehensive design documentation and perform detailed performance evaluations
- Assist in system test campaigns and perform troubleshooting directly on target dedicated equipment
- Support pre-project activities by contributing to the development of competitive technical solution proposals
- Coordinate with the customers, suppliers and partners on technical matters
- Provide technical expertise and support to other teams (Robotics, Ground, etc) in the Systems Department.
Skills and Experience
- A University’s Degree in computer science, electronics/software engineering, or equivalent studies
- At least 5 years of experience in Safety-Critical or mission-critical firmware development in relatable industry
- Proficiency in relevant functional safety standard(s) (ex: DO-178/254, ISO-26262, IEC-60730/62304, RTCA …)
- Experience in hardware manipulation, setup, and troubleshooting
Strong experience in software design and implementation with proven engineering track in:
- Formal design methods (UML, MBSE) and development methodologies (Waterfall, V-Shape, AGILE/SCRUM)
- Version Control tools (GIT) and Continuous Integration & Testing
- Bare-Metal approach or Real-time Operating Systems for embedded systems (preferably RTEMS, FreeRTOS)
- Embedded (MISRA) C/C++, scripting languages (Python, Shell).
- Configuration and administration of Network and Bus Protocols Stacks (TCP/IP, UART, SPI, I2C, Mil-1553, CAN, SpaceWire)
- Linux OS as development environment and deployment & configuration as (embedded) target (YOCTO)
In addition:
- Eager to follow standardized processes and to deal with documentation preparation
- Ability to cope with schedules and deadlines
- Team player with the ability to work independently and a can-do attitude
- Excellent Written and spoken English.
