GFT is seeking a Roadway Civil Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Charleston or Columbia, SC office! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Charleston or Columbia, SC office.

Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position will be a member of our roadway group and will work with lead roadway engineers and project managers to assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, MOT, specifications, cost estimates and other related tasks. Microstation, Geopak, MS Office and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specification are preferred. Candidates must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for roadway design projects.
  • Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Work with senior level engineers and managers on engineering problems and methods, and occasionally represents the organization in meetings, and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.


Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
  • Experience with MicroStation/Geopak
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Familiarity with SCDOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects.


What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • 4-8 years of design experience
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Experience with SC Municipalities
  • Experience with Open Roads Design


Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $70,350-$123,106. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
