What does a Risk and Quality Assurance Specialist do?

The Risk and Quality Assurance Specialist (RQAS) is responsible for measuring and improving process accuracy, effectiveness, and risk mitigation in the field. The RQAS develops auditing tools from current standards (SOPs) and implements them in the field. They oversee compliance within the Channel Islands YMCA, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and ethical standards. Additionally, the RQAS trains, educates, coaches, and mentors staff on legal changes, risk, and compliance guidelines to ensure effective and efficient identification, prevention, detection, and correction of noncompliance and risk factors.

  • Improve business productivity by administering and creating an effective quality assurance program
  • Create and conduct quality assurance audits and quick checks, based on SOPS, to ensure policies and procedures are followed and quality standards are met
  • Review, analyze, identify and communicate trends found in quality audits and incident reports
  • Review all incident reports, following up with staff in the field to evaluate and monitor risk, providing corrective actions as needed and to ensure the closure of all reports in a timely manner
  • Manage all general liability incidents, collaborating with the Risk and Facilities Director
  • Ensure the operational drill schedule is maintained and communicated, with drills completed promptly and follow-up actions addressed in a timely manner
  • Assist in child abuse prevention, compliance, and risk management in line with certified Praesidium Guardian standards
  • Manage all contracts, including insurance and compliance requirements, under the guidance of the Risk and Facilities Director
  • Conduct driving skill road tests on designated Association Pull Program drivers, as needed
  • Understand YMCA training offerings, partner with leadership to develop training needed and offer support to the field regarding risk and compliance training matters
  • Manage the development, communication, training and enforcement of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program
  • Make recommendations to improve satisfaction and program safety and quality
  • Prepare and present clear and concise compliance reports to senior management and board volunteers
  • Coordinate efforts related to internal and third-party audits and reviews
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; related work experience may offset degree requirement
  • 2+ years previous work experience in related role preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Complete required certifications within 30 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific training as required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
  • Ability to participate in the DMV Pull Program
