Brief Overview

MN-S is looking for a passionate and creative Program Developer to help build the Riel Scouts activities for Métis children and youth. This role will focus on designing and implementing hands-on, nature immersive, and culturally relevant activities all woven with a Métis focus. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping an innovative and fun program that blends learning, culture, and adventure.

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing programming for diverse groups, a creative approach to using minimal resources, and a strong understanding of Métis culture and traditions. You will work independently while collaborating with a team to bring ideas to life, ensuring the activities are accessible, engaging, and adaptable to youth of all abilities. Preference will be given to candidates with experience designing youth programming and have a passion for creating land-based, cultural curriculum. This role requires someone who is eager to continuously improve and adapt programs to better serve our young citizens.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, write, and create activities that are hands-on, low-cost, and engaging that seamlessly build on existing programming, promoting curiosity, connection to the land, and learning through experience and fun.
• Ensure all activities reflect Métis cultural values, history, language, and traditions
• Conduct research to ensure activities are culturally accurate, relevant, and aligned with Métis practices and values.
• Work closely with community leaders, Elders, and other stakeholders to develop and refine activities. Share your ideas, seek feedback, and adjust to improve and enhance the program. Present your activity plans to review committees in a clear and organized manner for approval and feedback.
• Write, edit, and proofread activity guides and supporting materials. Ensure that all content is clear, accessible, and relevant to both Captains and Scouts.
• Maintain organized files for all activity plans, materials, and resources. Ensure easy access to documents by implementing a clear system for saving and storing documents related to the Riels Scouts program.
• Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while remaining flexible in responding to changing needs. Demonstrate independence and self-motivation while contributing to team efforts.
• Actively seek feedback from participants and stakeholders to refine and improve activities. Demonstrate a willingness to adapt and pivot programming to meet evolving needs and challenges. Continuously strive to improve the overall Riels Scouts experience for Métis youth.

• Proven ability to design and develop hands-on, engaging activities for children and youth.
• Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Experience developing programs that incorporate cultural traditions, language, and outdoor exploration.
• A great team player who can collaborate effectively with teams, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to pivot and adapt programming as needed based on feedback or changing circumstances.
• Proficiency in using technology for communication, content development, and file management.
• A deep understanding and respect for Métis culture and traditions, with the ability to incorporate these values into engaging, hands-on activities.
• A genuine enthusiasm for environmental stewardship and hands-on exploration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or child & youth development or relevant combination of education and experience.
• Ability to communicate with diverse audiences using clear language.
• Experience in a non-profit sector would be considered an asset.
  
  

Additional Requirements

• A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.
• The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
