Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling. Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. Live-in Requirement: This position is required to live on campus and participate in the after-hours response rotation which directly responds to student crisis and emergency situations as well as providing consult, advice, and direction to the student leader on-call team members. The incumbent works a 40-hour work week with varied shifts and times, including some evenings, weekends, and non traditional hours. The incumbent is provided a meal plan with a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 meals per week in City Eats Dining Center. The incumbent is expected to interact and engage in conversation with residents as part of the meal plan. The incumbent must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Preferred Qualifications Due to the responsibilities and nature of this position, preferred qualifications that will lead to success in this role include: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Expertise in case management services * Knowledge of and experience identifying mental health and wellness issues that commonly affect students (e.g. anxiety, depression, individual and group conflict, substance abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and the sequelae of trauma, etc.). * Demonstrated ability in managing difficult and complex situations involving students. * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with college age populations, and providing student services to communities with a diverse population of individuals from a wide variety of countries of origin; with multi-racial, ethnic and cultural identities; multi-gender and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) identities; disabilities; and a myriad of beliefs. * Strong crisis management skills * Demonstrated ability to effectively and empathetically communicate, interact and collaborate with peers, colleagues and clients. * Demonstrated ability to establish effective, collaborative relationships with individuals and groups providing services or advocating on behalf of students with mental health problems. * Demonstrated ability to use organizational skills to efficiently develop plans and implement goals. * Demonstrated ability to develop a strong working knowledge of campus, local community and private health and welfare resources. * Ability to work collaboratively with campus departments including Student Health Services, Dean of Students, Residential Life, Basic Needs, and the Action Care Team. Education and Experience: * Master's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related human services field or Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology and licensed in the State of California or eligible to sit for licensure by the anticipate start date. * A minimum of 3 years experience as a social worker, case manager, or mental health clinician. * Previous experience working with Care Teams, Basic Needs programs, or clients facing immediate crisis. * Experience in a multicultural, urban setting. REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Mental Health Certification: Incumbents should be certified or obtain certification within their first year in mental health support and services through: * Mental Health First Aid Organization * Another reputable organization approved by the department California Driver's License: If incumbent is expected and approved to travel for business, a valid California driver's license may be expected to be maintained.
