Summary

Reuters is looking for an energetic Researcher with strong news judgement to join our team in Shanghai. The Shanghai Researcher will work closely with the text, video and photo teams in Shanghai and Shenzhen, be responsible for researching and monitoring news stories, assist news coverage on the field and learn the ropes of text and video news production.

We are looking for a researcher who has excellent news judgement, is a great team player and is adept with researching and reporting on breaking news to longer-form pieces and also has the understanding of what could make a compelling visuals story.

About The Role

As a Researcher, Shanghai Bureau you will:

  • Monitor and highlight daily news coverage on CCTV, Xinhua, and other Chinese news websites.
  • Work closely with the bureau, contributing in breaking news, monitoring social media, contacting sources and potential interviewees and help sourcing third-party content when required.
  • Conduct in-depth research to conceptualise story ideas that can be developed into rich and nuanced text and visual stories.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Shanghai, Shenzhen and across China


About You

You’re a fit for the role of Researcher, Shanghai Bureau if you:

  • Fluent English and Mandarin – written and oral.
  • A track record of being an organized team player.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Be prepared to work with the text and visuals teams in the field when required.
  • Assist in accreditation and logistics as needed.
  • Uphold Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity, and freedom from bias.
  • Good communication skills, strong team ethic, diplomacy and collaboration.
