Explore our benefits further here: https://hr.vcu.edu/current-employees/benefits/ Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities: The division of Research Information Systems Security and Compliance (RISSC) in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) provides a central IT hub to support research technology needs across the VCU research enterprise. Staff of the RISCC are focused on research technology needs, including research data storage and computing, research data security, honest broker services, a research data catalog, research administration data analytics and business intelligence, research application development/support, and research administration systems. The mission of RISSC focuses on: Transferring burden from researchers to expert research technology staff to coordinate data management and security plans, compliance and data security needs, honest broker services, communication with and training PIs on data security, and serve as the interface for technology issues related to research computing. Allowing researchers to continue uninterrupted research and perform their essential duties while allowing for internal/external data sharing across Schools and Universities. Understanding the current infrastructure for robust and secure data storage controls, enforcement, monitoring and reporting for research data. Implementing and managing the research administration systems across the research enterprise. The Research Security IT Manager will assist to: Develop guidance on research data security and management plan reviews. Design technical, administrative, and physical data management solutions in accordance with data sensitivity and available resources. Develop policies for regulatory requirements, like CMMC (cybersecurity), NIST (controlled unclassified information), GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation) etc. Work with VCU Technology Services and VCUHS Technology Services to plan and ensure implementation of secure technology solutions to meet research needs. Provide leadership on IT security to research CORES, other research units supported by RISSC and for all other teams within the RISSC. Assist in developing guidelines for the secure use and implementation of AI technologies with the OVPRI and research enterprise. Provide IT security leadership with ongoing monitoring and auditing of research data security in collaboration with HRPP (Human Research Protection Program) The ability to create positive interactions with researchers, administrators and other IT personnel and translate technical knowledge to non-technical individuals will be a differentiator for any person in this role. The ability to make independent judgment and logical reasoning are highly required due to the need for providing timely decisions to complex requirements. The Research Security IT Manager works under general supervision to general direction, making routine to complex decisions independently and referring unprecedented issues to the responsible parties. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience required Strong project management skills Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills Excellent communication skills in writing and verbally to a varying audience 3+ years of technical experience working with two of the four following security areas: systems development security, authentication and access management, network security and computer operations security Familiarity with regulatory requirements like HIPAA, CMMC, NIST, GDPR, etc. The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in a faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degrees are preferred CISSP, SSCP, GSEC, GLEG, GCWN, or other selected GIAC certifications are encouraged. Experience in and ability to translate contractual and regulatory requirements into actionable implementation plans On-prem and cloud IT Systems architecture certifications such as MCSE and AWS solutions architect are preferred 5+ years of enterprise IT systems implementation, and/or administration experience are strongly preferred.
