Summary

The Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Group aims at a comprehensive understanding of brain networks and their development in healthy children and adolescents as well as children suffering from psychiatric and developmental disorders. Using non-invasive neuroimaging techniques (MRI and EEG), we study structural changes of the brain, as well as the functional development of brain processes and mechanisms that characterize our perception, thinking, emotions, learning, as well as language and literacy skills. We are particularly interested in the specific characteristics of these brain networks in children and adolescents with developmental learning disorders, such as dyslexia, with multilingual language experiences, or with psychiatric disorders, such as depression or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We use various child-friendly neuroimaging methods and develop approaches to derive new evidence from neurobiological, cognitive, clinical, genetic and environmental information.

Your Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects mainly focusing on MR, EEG and neuromodulation studies in reading development, developmental dyslexia and pediatric major depression. The position is initially limited to one year, with the possibility of extension.

The Main Responsibilities Will Include

  • Help to improve data recording and analyses techniques for pediatric MRI recordings
  • Supervise PhD students and postdocs in statistical analyses and/or computational modelling, especially with neuroimaging data
  • Devise technical solutions for pediatric neuroimaging setups
  • Provide methodological input in setting up, programming and analysing experiments
  • Develop new methods to integrate multilevel data such as fMRI, electrophysiology, neurocognitive tests, large-scale literacy and language assessments, digital interventions, neuromodulation, neurofeedback, and genetics
  • Set up new analysis pipelines for MRI and/or EEG data in python and Matlab
  • Mentoring and supervision of PhD and master students in projects of with the focus on reading development, developmental dyslexia and pediatric major depression.
  • Prepare and offer tutorials/how to's on specific methods for lab members
  • Provide advice to team members regarding analysis methods and strategies
  • Introduce and test new analysis techniques in the lab
  • Contribute to the standardization and automatization of data management
  • Work on data analysis projects in the domain of brain development

Your profile

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or related fields
  • Expertise and experience in advanced neuroimaging analysis (MRI required, EEG, tDCS or other methods desired), preferably including computational modeling
  • Strong background in statistics and interest in learning how to use new statistical tools
  • Excellent knowledge of R, python and/or Matlab
  • Excited about solving technical challenges
  • Enthusiastic about supervising and supporting students
  • Interdisciplinary research experience and genuine interest in brain development
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Fluent English skills
