Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under limited supervision, the Clinical Research Project Manager will coordinate, implement, and evaluate a multi-site NIH-funded randomized clinical trial assessing the impact of medically tailored groceries (MTGs) on maternal and neonatal outcomes among low-income pregnant individuals recruited from two local hospital systems. The Project Manager will oversee daily operations, lead regulatory activities, coordinate research teams across clinical sites, support participant engagement and retention, and ensure data integrity and protocol fidelity. This position plays a key leadership role in aligning the research team with the project's objectives and contributes directly to addressing health disparities in pregnancy and birth outcomes through innovative food-as-medicine interventions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Coordinate and manage clinical trial operations across two major academic medical centers and community sites, including recruitment, enrollment, randomization, intervention delivery, and data collection. (25%) * Directly supervised and provide strategic direction to a multidisciplinary team including research assistants, data managers, and community health workers. Support training, task assignment, and quality control. (20%) * Develop and implement participant engagement and retention strategies tailored to low-income, pregnant populations. Monitor participation trends and troubleshoot barriers to retention. (10%) * Contribute to study evaluation and data integrity by collaborating with data managers and statisticians. Work closely with data team to ensure accurate REDCap-based data collection, assist with quality assurance, and prepare progress reports. (10%) * Facilitate communication and coordination with clinical site staff, community partners, food delivery teams, and funders. Schedule and lead team meetings, manage study timelines, and maintain documentation. (10%) * Contribute substantially to grant reporting, dissemination, and manuscript preparation, including development of community-facing materials, academic abstracts, and NIH progress reports. (10%) * Lead regulatory and compliance activities, including IRB applications, renewals, adverse event tracking, and staff training on human subjects protections. Ensure documentation aligns with NIH and institutional standards. (8%) * Oversee all payments made to study participants for data collection; track and document all payments; manage cash advance documentation and submission to finance; track payments across budget accounts, reconciling monthly (7%) * NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%) CONTACTS Department: Daily contact with principal investigator, research team, and admin staff to oversee project tasks. University: Regular contact with administrative units for IRB, HR, and grant compliance. External: Regular contact with clinical partners, food bank staff, Medicaid liaisons, and community organizations. In particular, regular recruitment and data collection meetings with team leads at UH and Metro. Frequent contact with participants to support recruitment, education, and continued engagement. Students: Frequent contact/oversight of students working on the project as part of student employment or as part of internships and practicums. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Provides direct supervision to research assistants and data management staff. Oversee onboarding and training of students or interns as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant public health or clinical research experience, OR Master's degree in Public Health, Clinical Research, Nutrition, or related field and 2 year experience. Experience with community research or on NIH-funded projects preferred. Direct experience on this project may substitute for formal experience minimums. REQUIRED SKILLS * Demonstrated knowledge of clinical trial operations and regulatory requirements (IRB, NIH, etc.) * Familiarity with REDCap and other data systems, including the EHR (through EPIC); ability to review, monitor, and report on data quality * Knowledge and understanding of research techniques and regulatory requirements. Prior research experience required. * Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate, and work with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, school and university, and with individuals outside the university. * Sensitivity to the needs of low-income, pregnant individuals and ability to support culturally competent engagement * Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow through. * Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. * Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. * Ability to maintain familiarity and demonstrate knowledge of project priorities, leadership and programs. * Effective problem-solving skills; must demonstrate sound judgment and good decision making. * Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to work under pressure; must be able and willing to work in a fast paced, changing environment. * Proficient in Microsoft Office and database tools; ability to quickly learn new platforms * Demonstrated willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed. * Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. * Ability to meet consistent attendance. * Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. * Ability to work independently, troubleshoot challenges, and adapt in a fast-paced research setting * Commitment to equity, integrity, and excellence in public health research. WORKING CONDITIONS This position is primarily office-based with regular visits to clinical and community partner sites. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. Position may involve travel across the Greater Cleveland area. Must be able to work on-site at affiliated locations when required. Hybrid Eligibility This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
