Summary

The USC Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Research Lab Technician III. This position is needed to support research projects that are ongoing under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin Xu and Dr. Kyle Bolo. Seeking a full-time research lab technician with expertise in data science, biostatistics and machine learning to join the ophthalmology department and assist in research relating to a variety of ophthalmic fields. The core group has interest in glaucoma detection and prognostication from various imaging studies and clinical data. Methods currently include conventional machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. The research lab technician will also assist other members of the department. The role of the research lab technician is to interface with clinician scientists to design and execute methods of data analysis. The research lab technician will also contribute to technical writing for scientific publications. With our group, you can expect to contribute to state-of-the-art technology and impactful publications. Job Summary: Plans and conducts research experiments in accordance with faculty objectives. Independently processes data and performs complex data analysis. Writes about methods and results. Supervises other research laboratory personnel as assigned. Job Accountabilities include: * Plans and conducts research experiments in accordance with faculty objectives. Collects and processes data for specific research needs. Contributes to the data science pipeline. Independently performs complex data analysis, applying biostatistical and machine learning methods to execute research objectives. * Maintains accurate records of methods used to conduct experiments. Provides analyses and interpretations of results for review by supervisor. Contributes to the writing of technical methods in scientific papers. * Interacts with peers of a multidisciplinary team and collaborates with computer scientists at the Information Sciences Institute of USC. * Researches, compiles and evaluates background information to enhance planning and design of experiments. Stays current in field of research to contribute to research planning and design activities and equipment planning. Job Qualifications: Preferred Education: Master's Degree Preferred Field of Expertise: Master's Degree or advanced technical schooling combined with 1-2 years of directly related research or programming experience to provide advanced knowledge of biostatistics and machine learning methods and the data science pipeline.
