Summary

Essential Duties 1. Services to provide access, troubleshooting, and support to researchers for successful use of data collections including reformatting and documentation. 2. Provides support to researchers in depositing data to the Yale Dataverse instance including developing metadata standards and documentation. 3. Manage, actively contribute to, and promote data curation services in Yale Dataverse and other repositories, as well as in disciplinary data repositories. 4. Advises on and implements scalable, sustainable, and domain-appropriate data services in supportof research at Yale. 5. Increases the visibility and usability of data resources through research consultations, workshops and course-integrated instruction, online research guides, and outreach efforts. 6. Collaborates with subject librarians, Geospatial specialists, and staff from the StatLab, the Digital Humanities Lab, and the Yale Center for Research Computing to support the research data and data science needs of Yale researchers. 7. Assists researchers in data management planning. 8. Provides instruction in data management issues and best practices to diverse audiences, including researchers, University staff, and Library colleagues. 9. Collaborates with campus partners, including the Office of the Deputy Provost for Research, the Office of Research Administration, the Yale Center for Research Computing, Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions, and the Yale Data-Intensive Social Science Center, concerning issues of managing, curating, sharing, and preserving research data. 10. Participates in outreach and research/instruction program planning and implementation for Computational Methods and Data. 11. Participates in Yale Library planning, committees, and task forces, and engages in campus, regional, and national professional organizations, and collaborative activities. 12. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of Yale's research support services and collections. 13. May represent Yale to state, national, and international data organizations. Required Education and Experience Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be substituted for an MLS. Position Focus: This position supports the discovery, use, and management of locally created and externally available data through direct contact with researchers. The incumbent with play a lead role in supporting the Yale Dataverse by directly supporting researchers, working with Library IT to ensure the system meets Yale's needs, and developing an outreach program for subject librarians to promote the service. In addition, this role supports researchers from any discipline as they design and navigate research projects with complex and multifaceted data management and sharing requirements as part of a team within Computational Methods and Data. The Research Data Management Librarian is a member of the Computational Methods and Data department and reports to the Head of Data Services. The incumbent participates in Yale Library planning, committees, and task forces; and engages in campus, regional, national, and international organizations and collaborative activities. The incumbent is expected to participate in professional activities outside of Yale and to monitor developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of Yale's research and learning program. Data services: Engages with Library IT, electronic resources, cataloging, and preservation departments on receiving data resources, hosting, and preserving collection content, and preparing content for discovery and availability to users, including advising on descriptive metadata and other finding tools. Works with the Head of Data Services to manage data storage infrastructure to ensure access to Yale researchers including handling requests for data access and receiving data from vendors. Familiarity with quantitative, qualitative, and geospatial data analysis applications. Knowledge of metadata standards for quantitative and qualitative data. Demonstrated experience providing public service and instruction in an academic research library setting. Proven experience with research data repositories such as Dataverse.
