Summary

You'll support me in promoting poetry, literacy, and community engagement across Nebraska. You will assist with identifying key destinations for events, developing outreach materials, and supporting publicity efforts to raise awareness of this statewide cultural program.

Timeline: Current – March 2026 | 10 hours/week | $14-$20/hour

Key Responsibilities:

1. Destination Research:

  • Identify and compile information on key destinations across Nebraska relevant to a statewide poetry initiative.
  • Highlight locations with unique cultural, historical, or literary significance locally and nationally.
  • Connect with key contacts of these locations to schedule appearances, readings, and/or workshops.

2. Publicity and Outreach:

  • Draft compelling press releases, letters, and articles to share project updates with local media outlets.
  • Build a list of media contacts, focusing on Nebraska-based publications, and explore opportunities with 1-2 national sources.

3. Marketing Assistance:

  • Suggest/research effective ways to engage rural communities

Additional Responsibilities:

Given your capacity and growth, the role will expand into scheduling, email, and phone communication with potential clients, social media work, and creative direction for print and spoken word projects. The above are core functions, but do not fully encompass how your role may evolve from now through March 2026, should you/we wish.

At all points of your internship, your creative input is welcome. I always encourage ideas and am transparent about when and why they may or may not align with my vision. I prefer you to have a genuine interest in connecting with people.

To Apply:

Simply submit your resume and a few sentences (via email, messenger, or Word doc) about what you think could be cool about this internship via EasyApply or email at [email protected]. I personally think working with the State Poet to do cool events and publications across the state is neat, but that's just me.
