Company Overview

Hybron Technologies is a startup that has developed a new manufacturing method for fiber-reinforced polymer composites that will revolutionize lightweight component production. Our new process solves the major challenges of traditional composites manufacturing, enabling more complex parts to be manufactured with higher quality and greater strength, at 10-100 times the speed.


About the Role

This is a full-time, in-person position.


As you will be working at an early-stage deep tech startup, this role will span many different tasks. You will need to be a self-starter and be adaptable to performing many different jobs. Along with these high expectations comes the opportunity to significantly influence the product development, strategy, and trajectory of a fast-growing startup company. Main Responsibilities

  • Design composite parts and tooling (CAD and drawings with GD&T)
  • Qualify, work with, and manage suppliers for material, tooling, machining, etc.
  • Perform hands-on work in R&D manufacturing trials
  • Prepare raw composite materials and fabricate composite parts
  • Operate various machines, including presses, ovens, power tools, CNC machines, 3D printers, material test machines
  • Perform mechanical, cosmetic, non-destructive, and destructive testing of parts with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools
  • Learn about and operate new types of equipment
  • Create standards and procedures for technicians to follow
  • Assist in setting up our pilot facility, identifying key machinery/capabilities to bring in house
  • Contribute to the development of automation technologies and capabilities
  • Occasionally directly interface with customers to identify technical requirements and deliverables and make sure they are met on time

  • Take on full projects and initiatives, managing budgets, timelines, and deliverables
  • Oversee, work with, teach, and manage newer engineers
  • Assist in hiring efforts to grow the team
  • Contribute to Hybron’s Quality Management System to conform with ISO 9001 and AS9100
  • Draft and contribute to patent applications, grant applications (SBIRs), and proposals
  • Assist with technical business development efforts
  • Identify and execute on developing/integrating strategic technological capabilities
  • Spearhead, oversee, and deliver on large development initiatives
  • Lead an engineering team


Requirements

  • Must be a US Person pursuant to the EAR and the ITAR definitions
  • Ability to work in-person at our pilot facility in El Segundo
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field (Composites Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, etc.)
  • 1+ years of experience working with composite (fiber-reinforced polymer) materials
  • Prior experience of ownership, problem-solving skills, and effective team collaboration from school or work experience
  • Demonstrated drive to deliver on ambitious schedules, even and especially if unconventional & creative solutions are necessary to do so
  • Excellent hands-on skills and prior machine shop experience
  • Able to operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to: forklifts and presses
  • Standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are general duties of the job
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Must be willing to work occasional long hours and weekends to meet deadlines


Nice to Haves But Not Required

  • Relevant industry engineering experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment with constant iteration/change
  • Prior experience with CAD and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Prior experience with creating and executing on budgets
  • Masters or PhD in a relevant engineering or science field (Composites Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, etc.)
  • Prior experience working at or leading a small company/business, or with small teams
  • Prior experience working at a federal Aerospace Contractor or in a DOD laboratory
  • Prior experience working at a company that is ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified
  • Prior experience working with Onshape CAD Software
  • Prior experience working with FEA and/or CFD simulation software
