Summary/Objective
Fairwinds technologies is looking for a communications engineer capable of working with a dynamic sales team to design, develop and demonstrate technical military concepts and solutions to support company Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C5ISR) objectives. The candidate must have a strong desire to learn new things. Key skills include strong technical acumen in the radio frequency and network communications domain, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to present complex technical information in a clear and understandable way to different stakeholder groups. This position must build and maintain relationships with customers, understand their needs, and provide solutions that meet those needs.
The sales engineer will report to the Fairwinds Head of Sales, home office will be remote, but will travel frequently to support the sales team.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare and give technical presentations to explain to customers how the company’s products and services work.
- Work with the customers, the sales team and product development teams to ensure the equipment meets the system requirements.
- Communicate with the sales team to understand user demands and offer sales support where necessary.
- Provide technical assistance in securing sales deals including but not limited to: technical paper development, concept designs, technical presentations, product and site surveys, quoting and technical demos.
- Work with sales leaders to establish customer rapport and acceptance.
- Set up and configure sales demonstration capability to support various events and exercises.
- Based on user feedback, plans for modifications to products to meet consumer demands and socialize with the product development team.
- Help company and customers solve problems with product usage.
- Technical representative for the company at trade shows and major demos.
- Recommend new and improved products to the customers and explain how the equipment will be more user effective.
Competencies
- Must have good to strong knowledge in military communication systems including cellular, baseband (digital) networking and/or radio frequency domains.
- Experience developing test plans, procedures, technical papers, journals and reports
- Experience pitching concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience working in a highly dynamic environment dealing with technical and non-technical personnel
- Experience developing high-level hardware architectural designs and solutions
- Experience working with and leading teams to rapidly produce solutions to customer gaps
- Experience establishing test environments & tracking system/subsystem issues
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not supervise others.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a remote role, however requires frequent access to traditional offices or integration/lab facilities.
Physical Demands

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position, working Monday through Friday; 40 hours per work week; occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Some flexibility in actual work hours may be offered.
Travel
Up to 50% travel to US CONUS or OCONUS sites
Required Education/Experience
- Cellular, Network or Radio Frequency equipment technical training & experience (Networking experience should include CISCO CCNA, CCNP or other industry recognized certifications)
- Must have experience configuring & testing point-to-point, point-to-multi-point or mesh or other military or commercial communication systems
- Must have experience developing test plans, test procedures, and test reports
- Must have experience performing integration and test efforts for medium to large projects
- Must possess fundamental knowledge of communication principles including information management, interoperability and compatibility, and transmission system requirements
- Must have 5-7 years’ experience in sales or sales engineering
Preferred Education/Experience
- Familiarity with 5G communications including 3GPP standards
- Familiarity with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) fundamentals and techniques
- Experience testing and configuring LOS point-to-point and mesh radios
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be eligible to work in the US. Must be able to obtain a DoD Top SECRET security clearance.
