Summary

Job Overview:

Visionary Solutions of Virginia is seeking at least two additional Lead Web Developers to support front-end and backend development projects. The leaders will work directly with the student volunteers to coach, instruct, and guide them and the rest of the team to success. They will assist in the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the project Managers to task the volunteer web development team.

Purpose:

The current state of our website is not fully ready. There are a lot of elements missing, and we cannot start competing for contracts and grants as a result. So, we are looking to make enhancements ranging from UI/UX to functions such as the disabled being able to easily upload their resumes for review, find vocations, get live training that is offered, see what positions are open for contracts that we have won, etc. We are aiming to build the website with disability features at the forefront, as the non-profit is focused on supporting the disadvantaged. Elements of the site must be capable of meeting the requirements that we have gathered for government contracts/grants, fund tracking and traceability and provide access for people to apply to support our initiatives. With that in mind, Ease of Use for those with disabilities is something that we want to place specific focus on, which might extend past base 508 compliance.  We will have a team of 10 student volunteers and professionals working towards the common goal of overhauling our website to meet these needs.

Work Culture:

We value and place importance on creating a positive, healthy, collaborative, innovative, and fun environment for all volunteers. This is not a high-pressure/high-stress environment. We want to make sure we’re efficient and effective in the limited time utilization of the volunteers, but we also understand the need to be flexible in delivery and want to ensure we are encouraging, supportive, compassionate, collaborative, and openly communicative as a team. We are looking to break tasks into small, digestible chunks that meet the time constraints of the volunteers while also making effective progress on more critical areas of the design/development of the website.

What You'll Do:

●     Coach, mentor, and support a team of junior (student) developers.

●     Lead the design and frontend development of new website features with a focus on accessibility (beyond 508 compliance).

●     Help break down technical tasks into manageable pieces for volunteers.

●     Collaborate with UI/UX designers and backend developers to deliver a seamless user experience.

●     Guide integration efforts between Wix, third-party tools, and potential custom applications.

●     Assist project managers with task planning and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) creation.

●     Bring modern web development best practices into a CMS-focused workflow.

What We're Looking For:

●     Minimum 2 years of professional experience in web development (not academic/student projects).

●     Solid experience working with content management systems (CMS)-bonus if you're familiar with Wix.

●     Strong frontend skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience with frontend frameworks.

●     A good eye for UI/UX and passion for accessibility-focused design.

●     Collaborative, patient, and able to explain technical concepts to varying skill levels.

●     Familiarity with project scoping, task estimation, and agile/scrum processes is a plus.

●     Experience leading teams or mentoring junior developers in a professional setting is a plus.
