Who will you be working with?
With the Field Service Team, you will work collaboratively with the PM, the KAM, and the Resident Engineer (if present) to provide the required field support to advance the reliability of all Wabtec transit products present on your assigned territory.
How will you make a difference?
As the Regional Field Service Manager, you will oversee the field aspects of projects for the passenger rail market in the assigned territory. You will be responsible for planning (jointly), execution, supervision, oversight, and auditing all Field Services related operations in the region.
You are responsible for building and improving relationships with Car builders and Transit Authority customers. You must promote a strong safety culture with their personnel. The Regional Field Service Manager develops, and updates detailed plans for FSRs and retrofit crews, which include:
- costing and financial management
- resource loading
- retrofit planning
- manpower scheduling
- management & oversight of regular and special tooling
- management of competencies & training
- management of warranty spares
- risk management
- gate review summaries
- REX = lessons learned
- management of Field Service work orders
- develop and maintain OILs
- develop contract summaries for new projects (if required)
- develops warranty plan documents for new projects.
He/she develops and maintains processes and KPIs to manage and control the above Field Service categories.
What do we want to know about you?
- Requires at least 5 years in management of technical/engineering activities and/or proven experience in the field
- Management & Financial experience is an asset

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
What will your typical day look like?
- Travel is required up to 50%
- Night shift as required
- Support the execution of projects in the Midwest region during the warranty phase.
- Provide leadership throughout the assigned territory and act as a Safety Champion.
- Promote and develop a safety culture within the Field Service team.
- With the Field Service team, support the technical leading of the Resident Engineer or Divisional Engineering groups to improve Wabtec products’ reliabilities.
- With the field service team support the PMs, the KAM, and the Resident Engineer to improve Customer Satisfaction.
- In collaboration with the KAM and/or the Resident Engineer, attend/participate in meetings at the Customer sites to represent Wabtec.
- Manage (plan, develop, schedule, direct, oversee, & audit) the work of the Field Service technicians (who perform service calls and/or retrofit work) for all of the Wabtec products and systems on the assigned territory.
- Manage, coordinate, and improve safety in all aspects of the Field Service operation on the respective territories.
- Plan, coordinate, monitor, and report on training for the Field Service technicians (safety & technical training)
- As required, create process and procedure documents related to Field Service activities (operations & safety)
- Generate risk assessments for the various activities and areas of the territory.
- Generate ‘’lessons learned’’ documents.
- Support the Field Service work order process (Field Connect).
- Support the budget process and financial reporting requirements.
- Review & approve timesheets and expense reports for the Field Service technicians.
- Participate in the hiring of Field Service technicians.
- Create and manage work/vacation schedules for the field service technicians.
- Provide the field service technicians with the required documentation/schematics/drawings for product adjustments, retrofits, procedures, safety issues, etc.
- Create, coordinate, and oversee the update of retrofit tracking spreadsheets.
- Monitor retrofits' progress and drive their implementation/completion.
- Make rail car requests as required to advance work done by the Field Service technicians.
- Implement computerized work order reporting (as/when required)
- Manage, oversee, and inventory retrofit material
- As required, order, manage, inventory and audit: tooling & material to support Field Service technicians.
- Create plans, implement them, and perform audits/reviews of Field Service activities in light of improving safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
- Support requests from the Wabtec Project Managers, Wabtec Engineering groups, and the Wabtec Training departments.
- Responsible for the financial performance and overall profitability of all programs/projects in the assigned territory.
- Provide effective leadership for staff assigned to the region with respect to budgetary planning.
- Performance reviews, coaching, career development, and disciplinary action as required.
- Monitor & control warranty and retrofit costs by developing and leveraging productivity tools to reduce costs and improve productivity.
- Develop and maintain the ‘’Open Items Lists’’ (OILs).
- Assist the Reliability and Warranty team with creating contract summaries and warranty plans.
- Develop, deploy, and track KPIs for Field Service operations in the most effective way in terms of quality and cost for all the Wabtec projects in North America.
- Create, update, and publish Field Service processes and arrange to gather feedback from various departments.
- Represent the Field Service team at various internal and customer meetings.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
While this position is remote, it may include occasional work at a Wabtec office/site or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between
$77,400.00-$110,300.00
The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
