Regional Director - Civil & Environmental - California
Our client is seeking a dynamic Regional Director to lead operations across its California footprint, with a primary base in the Bay Area, Los Angeles or San Diego. This role is responsible for the strategic growth, profitability, and operational performance across multiple locations, comprising a talented staff of 50+ professionals.
This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to shape regional direction, drive cross-functional collaboration, and deepen impact across public and private sector markets.
Key Focus Areas
- Strategic Business Leadership: Drive the development and execution of regional business plans aligned with California and Western U.S. growth objectives.
- P&L and Financial Oversight: Manage office-level performance including revenue, utilization, cash flow, and overhead—working in concert with broader regional metrics.
- Talent and Team Development: Inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams, building a culture of mentorship, accountability, and career development.
- Client and Market Growth: Leverage and expand relationships with federal, state, local, and private sector clients. Actively drive business development efforts in partnership with technical and practice leads.
- Community and Industry Engagement: Serve as a visible leader in the local market, strengthening the firm’s presence through civic engagement and strategic partnerships.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services through technical oversight, quality assurance, and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a regional integrator—coordinating people, projects, and plans across California.
- Collaborate with practice leaders to pursue new opportunities and deepen existing client partnerships.
- Provide executive oversight on contract negotiations, risk management, and project performance.
- Monitor business unit performance and proactively adjust to market conditions.
- Cultivate future leaders by identifying and nurturing emerging talent.
- Represent the firm externally as the “face of the office” with clients, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Partner with internal teams across marketing, finance, HR, and operations to ensure cohesion and growth.
To be the successful candidate you will need 15+ years in a consulting environment with focus in any of the following environment; Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Land Development, Transportation, Architecture or Construction Services. Whilst you must have experience managing a PnL and over 8 years in a leadership capacity.
