Summary

The Recreation Programmer-Athletics develops, promotes, and administers the comprehensive recreation programs for Macon-Bibb County.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversees the organization, promotion, and supervision of diversified sports and activities.
  • Prepares and recommends budgets for the Athletics Division.
  • Directs approved budget expenditures.
  • Coordinates the maintenance and scheduling of assigned facilities.
  • Prepares routine and special reports regarding athletic program participation and other relevant topics.
  • Participates in departmental planning, research and training.
  • Oversees the collection of fees and charges in connection with functions of the Athletics Division.
  • Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Works with a variety of civic agencies to promote and develop programs for Macon-Bibb County athletics.

Education, Training and Experience

The Recreation Programmer-Athletics should possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field and at least four (4) years’ experience in recreation programs; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Necessary Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the basic principle and objectives of parks/recreational sports, and athletics activities.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and basic office programs.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage a diverse program of athletics.
  • Ability to cooperate and collaborate with agencies and departments both internal and external.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
  • Ability to use all publicity media for the promotion of the division program functions.
  • Skill in effective written and oral communication.
