Part-time, seasonal employment.

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for Recreation Program Assistants to assist full time staff in those areas specific to assigned duties. Assist in overseeing all activities, operations and programs in support of an assigned recreation center, Cumberland County School gym facility, or athletic field. Oversee or assist with such activities as athletic games and practices as a designated key holder for Cumberland County School facilities, to include opening and closing facilities for recreational usage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Help organize and assist by supervising recreation programs and services at an assigned site.
  • Open and close Cumberland County School facilities, ensuring all CCS procedures are adhered to.
  • Enforce both department and school rules and regulations as it relates to games, safety and procedure.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning programs and assigned activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience

Current Cumberland County School employee with key holder privileges.

Training

None.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS

Required

None.

Preferred

CPR certification; AED certification; and First Aid certification.

Required For School Bus Operators Only

Possession of an appropriate CDL with a school bus "S" endorsement and ability to maintain insurability.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.

Deferred Compensation Plans

Effective January 1, 2025, part-time, seasonal and temporary employees are eligible to participate in the NC 401(k) and NC 457 plan. These plans assist employees in saving for retirement by saving a portion of their pay.

The NC 401(k) and NC 457 plans are both administered by Empower.

Part-time, Temporary And Seasonal Employees Can

  • Enroll in the NC 457 Plan.
  • Enroll in the NC 401(k) Plan (eligibility begins January 2025)
  • Roll over outside assets (if eligible) and take advantage of strong oversight, diverse investment options and low fees.

Pay Periods/Direct Deposit:

City employees are paid bi-weekly, every other Friday. As an added convenience and safety measure, the City requires all new employees to sign up for direct deposit of their payroll checks.
