Lexicon Speech, Language, and Reading is an education provider that specializes in dyslexia, learning disabilities, speech-language therapy, and reading therapy. We work with students of all ages and it is our goal to improve their reading level, language, grades, other abilities, and confidence through multi-sensory instruction and one-on-one therapy.
The goal of the training program at Lexicon is to prepare an individual to work at Lexicon by providing the tools, techniques, and guidelines for properly working with our students. Additionally, we provide future teachers, educators, and therapists with an opportunity to get practical experience working with students in an environment resembling that of their future careers. You do not have to be in one of those fields to apply - you just have to have an interest in working with students! Lexicon trainees will learn science-based reading practices that will be directly applicable in future teaching scenarios.
The Lexicon training program is offered year-round and can start at any time. It is designed to prepare you for employment at Lexicon!
The Reading Instructor Trainee will have the opportunity to:
* learn about evidence based teaching methods for students with reading and writing disabilities
* learn about curriculum organization/structure
* learn about dyslexia and co-morbid deficits
* observe student sessions/lessons
* participate in sessions/lessons
Requirements and information:
* Lexicon’s busiest operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 2:30 - 6:30. All applications will be considered but priority may be given to those available during these times.
* Lexicon operates year round, therefore to be considered for employment upon completion of the training program candidates must consider his/her year round plans. All candidates will be considered regardless and vacation time/time off is flexible and encouraged.
* Must have an interest in working with children, previous experience with children, or be enrolled in/have completed a related degree program.
* Must be a compassionate and patient individual who enjoys seeing others succeed.
* The program takes approximately 100-125 hours to complete. Duration of the training program is dependent on schedule availability. Schedules are flexible.
* Lexicon trainees are paid a weekly stipend of up to $100 prior to being considered for employment. This stipend is directly tied to schedule and availability.
