THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Head of Engineering this role provides the right candidate with the opportunity to build engaging product experiences & the platforms necessary to support them. The focus for this role is to work on our mobile applications; improving our core audio playback capabilities and implementing new features.
Nova is in an exciting period of digital transformation. As part of this transformation, we’re bringing all our software development in-house. We have an exciting product suite which ranges from mobile, websites, smart speaker applications and APIs all which scale to meet the high traffic demands of our audience.
Our entire stack is mostly TypeScript. We use React Native for our mobile apps, Next.js for our websites and Node.js for our API services. We’re also heavily invested in the serverless ecosystem and run a variety of serverless services and microservices.
You’ll be joining a small but talented team of engineers, each of whom work across a variety of disciplines. We value self-motivation, accountability, and innovation; and provide a flexible environment to work, which reflects and reinforces these values.
What you will be doing and what skills you may have:
In summary:
- Work to improve our core audio playback features in our mobile apps
- Work with CarPlay and Android Auto ensuring feature parity with our mobile app
- Integrate native OS features with our React Native apps (Widgets, SiriKit, MusicKit)
- Integrate new internal APIs with our React Native apps to enable new functionality
- Regularly keep up to date with React Native’s evolution, alongside iOS and Android ecosystem changes, keeping our app in line with modern practices
- Improve stability and performance across our app ecosystem overall
- Partner closely with product owners and designers to deeply understand project requirements and provide input on trade-offs or technical constraints
- Collaborate with and mentor junior developers

- 4+ years experience with React Native
- Experience with Swift / Swift UI
- Experience with TurboModules and the Fabric renderer
- Experience with Java / Kotlin
- Experience with Redux (we use Redux Toolkit)
- Familiarity with Firebase and Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines and app distribution
- Familiarity with C++/JSI desirable
- Understanding of React testing best practices
- Familiarity with developing for Apple tvOS, Android TV SDK and Samsung TV SDK desirable
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
- Experience with Fastlane for iOS and Android app distribution.
- Understanding of React testing best practices
