R&D Engineering Technical Project Manager Department: Payload Employment Type: Full Time Location: Irvine, California Compensation: $110,000 - $150,000 / year Description At Turion Space, we're on a mission to secure Earth and expand humanity's reach beyond it. We're developing spacecraft for national security, in-space servicing, and orbital debris removal. As we prepare for upcoming launches and expand our portfolio of government and commercial programs, we're looking for an R&D Engineering Technical Project Manager to drive the execution of complex hardware and software development programs. Key Responsibilities * Manage electrical and sensor development projects, including PCBs, vehicle systems, interconnect design as well as optical systems -from planning through launch readiness. * Drive detailed project planning, including scope definition, schedules, budgets, milestones, and deliverables. * Coordinate execution across internal engineering teams, suppliers, and partners to ensure timelines and technical goals are met. * Identify risks early, manage tradeoffs, and implement mitigation strategies to keep programs on track. * Act as the connective tissue between technical execution and program goals, ensuring alignment between engineering detail and broader mission objectives. * Maintain high-quality project documentation, including status updates, RAID logs, and post-project reviews. * Collaborate closely with program management, product, QA, and leadership teams to support high-velocity decision making and program clarity. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering management, or a related field * 4+ years of project management experience with a strong track record of leading complex technical projects OR * 2+ years of electrical engineering experience in design, test, or manufacturing with history of working on projects from concept to execution * Familiarity with the development process for electrical hardware and systems * Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Jira, MS Project) * Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills across engineering and leadership audiences * The ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret or TS/SCI clearance Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering and/or MBA * 6+ years of technical project management experience in the aerospace, defense, or advanced technology sector * Experience managing government-funded or DoD space programs * Project management certifications such as PMP, CSM, or PMI-ACP * Strong familiarity with satellite systems, in-space servicing, or mission ops * Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance ITAR Requirements: This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls.
