Rate $1100 - $1200 a day (plus super @ 12%)

Location: Canberra, ACT

Contract Duration: 12 months (with 12-month extension option)

Maximum Hours per Week: 40 hours

Our client is seeking a Senior Radio Frequency Technologist to support a nationally significant technical capability. This role involves working across RF hardware design, software configuration, integration testing, and the development of technical and systems engineering documentation. The successful candidate will also support and uplift the capability of junior staff through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, test and document engineering subsystems.
• Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and scenarios using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Conduct testing and fault isolation on RF communications systems using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and spectrum analysers.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including design specifications and review materials.
• Perform design reviews under guidance and contribute to continuous improvement of technical procedures.
• Work with coaxial, optical, and signalling cabling.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must provide a response to each of the following criteria (up to 3000 characters per criterion):

1. DESN 4 – Systems Design
2. Ability to design system components using appropriate modelling techniques. Demonstrated experience in evaluating design alternatives, producing multi-perspective system designs, modelling behaviours, and developing specifications.
3. RFEN 4 – RF Engineering
4. Experience diagnosing and resolving RF system faults using diagnostic tools. Ability to reconfigure and integrate RF equipment, define communication protocols, and optimise system performance.
5. TEST 3 – Test Engineering
6. Experience designing test cases, participating in design reviews, conducting structured exploratory testing, and using test data and automation tools to validate system functionality

Desirable Criteria

• Prior experience with satellite communications.
• Electrical Trade Certification.
• Understanding and application of the ARPANSA RF Safety Standard.
• Experience with RF over IP (RFoIP) technologies.

Working Arrangements

This role is onsite in Canberra (ACT) with no remote or hybrid options. The successful candidate must be able to obtain a Positive Vetting (PV) security clearance. Full-time availability is required (up to 40 hours per week).
