The Manager of Quality will oversee the Quality Systems & Laboratory Team and the Quality Operations Team. This role will be responsible for ensuring the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of PetIQ's Quality Management System (QMS) at the Omaha Plant and support the Distribution Center (DC). Additionally, this individual will provide leadership for production quality compliance, product release, laboratory management, and quality risk management to uphold regulatory standards and support operational excellence.
Essential Functions And Job Duties
- Quality Management System (QMS):
- Oversee and manage PetIQ’s QMS implementation across the Omaha Plant and support the DC.
- Ensure continuous improvement of quality systems including Deviations, CAPA Management, Change Management, Product Quality Complaints (PQCs), and Document Control.
- Support the team in developing, overseeing, and maintaining systems for document archival, and product defect complaint management.
- Production Quality Oversight:
- Provide strategic oversight of production quality compliance activities, including adherence to established SOPs, work instructions, and GMP requirements.
- Ensure quality support for incoming material and component release processes and maintain control over product storage and handling.
- Direct the Quality Operations team in overseeing production activities and managing control processes.
- Laboratory Management:
- Support the Quality Systems & Laboratory team in managing laboratory testing, including method development, validation, and environmental monitoring.
- Ensure timely execution of stability studies, testing, and other laboratory activities that support production and compliance objectives.
- Supplier and Co-Manufacturing Oversight:
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and the DC Quality team to oversee supplier and co-manufacturer compliance and approval processes.
- Coordinate external supplier and customer audit responses, ensuring regulatory requirements and quality standards are met.
- Training and Development:
- Lead GMP training programs, ensuring all Quality and production staff are knowledgeable of current regulatory requirements and internal processes.
- Develop and mentor Quality team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance excellence.
- Quality Risk and Issue Management:
- Lead and participate in Quality Risk Assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risks within production and laboratory operations.
- Coordinate deviation and CAPA investigations, ensuring effective root cause analysis and timely resolution to prevent reoccurrence.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Support internal and external audits, including State and Federal inspections, customer audits, and third-party inspections.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements (EPA, FDA, State) and ensure compliance across all processes and documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory requirements are integrated into production, quality systems, and supplier management.
Minimal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in Quality roles, with at least 3 years in a GMP or regulated industry.
- 1-year minimum experience with US FDA NDA/ANDA/NADA/ANADA requirements.
- Proven leadership experience with 4+ years managing or supervising personnel.
- Strong understanding of GMP production and distribution requirements, particularly in pharmaceutical, medical device, or food industries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing customer or regulatory audits and conducting external supplier audits.
- Advanced skills in quality management, risk assessment, and problem-solving within a regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Regular attendance and punctuality, with occasional travel as needed for audits, training, or site support.
- Occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, walk, stand, or stoop as necessary.
