Role Overview

The Quality Engineer will lead the development and execution of the quality program for site projects at our Rotterdam Refinery. The role spans the entire project lifecycle, from concept development to execution and handover, involving engagement with key suppliers and their quality programs. Responsibilities include quality planning, QA/QC, investigation activities, continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of quality across all operations.

This position requires close collaboration with the Rotterdam Site Projects team, contractors, and the global quality team to ensure efficiency and consistency in quality management practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the quality program for site projects.
  • Provide quality management and QA/QC support, including planning, contractor management, inspection, testing, completion, certification, and lessons learned.
  • Drive and support the implementation of the bp Right 1st Time program.
  • Oversee commissioning completions, certification, handover, and regulatory compliance support.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality requirements in contracts and purchase orders.
  • Implement and manage the non-conformance process, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions.
  • Monitor and manage contractor and supplier quality oversight, including audits and KPIs.
  • Support supplier evaluations, non-conformance management, and performance management.
  • Provide quality management support to operations, including aftermarket services, inspections, and asset repairs.
  • Promote knowledge sharing of lessons learned across projects, TARs, operations, and the global bp community.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil & gas or similar industry.
    • At least 5 years of Quality Management experience (preferred but not essential).
    • Strong background in quality planning, oversight, verification activities, audits, and inspections.
    • Familiarity with international quality standards (ISO 9001, API Q1 & Q2).
    • Knowledge of quality methodologies such as FMEA, Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, risk management, and verification processes.
    • Excellent people skills with the ability to lead, coach, and influence.
    • Fluency in Dutch and English.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Power BI.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to understand the broader business impact of quality initiatives.
  • Accountability and leadership in quality program execution.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to support professional development within the team.
